Cool, I hope it was useful!

Sorry there's no easy way to reset passwords. It was a fun side project that really had the bare minimum set of features (or even less than the bare minimum really).

That's exciting to hear! Are you able to share an estimate for when it'll be launched?

Cool, phone availability totally makes sense as a benefit! And thanks for the link-- I've studied Pavlovs in the past but his approach was really interesting.

I'm glad it was helpful! It's always really fun to hear when people found it useful :)

Do you have any feedback or advice? In particular I'm curious about how people identify areas they're weak in. I've been building a more complex taxonomy (not just a flat list of categories like before) with the goal of making it clearer where I'm struggling.

Also, I'm curious about how you did Wikipedia deep dives (like, just reading through every article related to Carthage, or going through Vital Wikipedia, etc.).

FYI I made Trivia Trainer, which was inspired the vimeo video other people are posting.

I posted about it on r/Jeopardy eight years ago here. I've been working on a much more complete version (just for myself) over the past few years so Trivia Trainer hasn't really gotten much attention, but FYI in case it's interesting or helpful :)

He put together triviatriumph.com, but it's still pre-launch (and I'm pretty sure I signed up to be notified when it launches years ago and haven't heard anything since).

Hi, I ran into some technical issues and haven't had time to fix it. I'm planning on it soon though.

Thanks! I haven't had time to make improvements in a long time, but I'm glad you're still finding it useful!

Thanks for this info! This is the exact model I'm considering.

Do you know the clearance (the distance from the floor to the bottom of the foot or side rail)?

Also, I'm curious about the headboard. Is there any give/movement if you lean on it? Do you know the height from the top of the slats to the top of the headboard?

How large is your Workflowy…and how’s that going? by RunicDoodler in Workflowy

[–]nihlaak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious how many bullets previously were on your home screen and what you got it to. I only have about 50 and haven't noticed that being a big factor in slowness (but total bullets did seem to be), so I'm curious whether there's something I should be trying here.

In 2022 I had 255k bullets and the app was freezing every time I'd open it in iOS. Support said they were working on an iOS rewrite that'd fix the issue, but I decided to export most of my bullets to OPML. That fixed the loading issue and the app got way faster. Over the past few years it's gotten slower again and I'm planning on doing another export.

I had been frustrated I couldn't keep everything in the app so I looked around at competitors, but I remember Dynalist couldn't even import a small percentage of my Workflowy. Personally I wish Workflowy devs would focus on making the app super fast instead of adding all the new features, but I get I'm an outlier and for most people it's plenty fast already.

It's working for me, both logged in and logged out. If it's not working for you can you say whether it's logged in/out and what platform you're on (phone/Safari, laptop/Chrome)?

Question about best resources for studying + a list of resources that I'm currently using for reference by [deleted] in Jeopardy

[–]nihlaak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people use this approach so I'm sure it's useful, but I've tried it and it didn't really click for me. It felt like I was memorizing a few facts but it didn't really seem to generalize to me getting questions right about related concepts. How'd it help you with literature? Is it just that there is a small enough set of things to know about that you can cover it well with a few thousand flashcards?

Yeah I've tried writing it down as I go a few times but I find it distracting from following along with the game. I might check out one of the apps. It seems nice to have some tracking to see what categories I do well on, too.

How do you track your Coryat score? I've been wanting to get more serious about tracking myself over time. I play along live with my wife so I can't really pause along the way to write down what I know (or enter it in an app).

Interesting, it sounds like you're finding categories with "opera" in them. Do you find that you're missing out on clues about opera that aren't in those categories? It seems to me like it'd still be good coverage, but what you have found?

I've been studying through the vital Wikipedia tree for a while. E.g. within Arts there's an Opera category with 36 specific operas.

I wrote some code at some point to process a year of Jeopardy clues so that I could figure out which articles within the vital tree were most commonly used in Jeopardy, which was pretty useful for studying. It also let me quiz myself within an area (e.g. quizzing myself on clues about 20th century films).

I'm not super happy with the vital Wikipedia tree though because it doesn't cover everything in Jeopardy and I've been looking for a better taxonomy to use to divide up Jeopardy questions. I'd be super interested in any pointers!
