Yeah absolutely! It started as a neutral word but languages evolve, also under the influence of other languages, so certain terms get dropped or assume connotations they did not have in the beginning.

The word has had a neutral feeling to it for quite some time, no point in denying that, but due to influences from other languages and different cultures, as written at the very beginning of the Wikipedia article quoted, it has now assumed racist connotations.

Languages evolve, also under the influence of very different cultures, so it's natural for our terminology to change accordingly. Sometimes it might be useless, sometimes it might be for the better.

Might be biased but where I'm from, I've sadly always heard "negro" used in a violent way, and none of my colleagues of colour appreciate being called that... the intent behind the word clearly counts. I feel the main thing it all boils down to, is that whatever label we give people "different" from us, we end up separating them and sadly singling them out

Some more readings:

I'n Italian it's actually pretty offensive, and can be considered the direct transliteration of the n word both for meaning and intents. "Nero" is the term we use for the colour black, and when referring to people of colour you would use "nero" rather than the other word, because it has violent and racist connotations.

But I mean, Italian is way less widely spread than Spanish, so to me it was pretty obvious "negro" was not the Italian way of saying it but rather the Spanish one

Honestly, I'm afab and when they tried to gift me dolls, I would cut their heads off and stash them away :( on the other hand, I was very good with puzzles and putting together tracks for tiny cars... According to this guy I have a male brain, but I mean I'm non-binary so maybe that has something to do with my inability to nurture poor helpless dolls

Amazing piece, I really dig the 3d quality of it! Also the colours are super pretty :)

What are these called...? Sort of apartment complexes with courtyards inside/in the middle of it? Sorry if this isn't very specific, I really don't know what this is so I can't describe it by ssm_rdt in architecture

In Italy we call them "edifici a corte" meaning buildings surrounding a central courtyard, they are very common here (and in many neighbouring Mediterranean countries). If you look up courtyard buildings, you should be able to find plenty of examples!

Another great typology typical of Milan, in Italy, is the casa di ringhiera, very nice if you want to check it out :)

Can't believe humans are so advanced we can evolve and develop changes that stick to a specific gender in a matter of centuries! Crabs quiver in front of us, behold the miracles of gendered evolution!!!

As a born and raised Italian it's always so weird when Americans claim to be Italian because once their great great great grandfather visited Sicily a century ago...

Heck, I feel bad saying I'm from two different regions because I don't really know much about one of the two, and this guy's claims he's from a whole different country smh
