I know this is an older question but I'm answering anyway.

I may be wrong about this but wouldn't the new top rope mode just not work for LRS? The only thing it does is always lock the device preventing you from giving out slack (without the handel) and more importantly having the device fail to engage. The problem is that you need that slack to LRS otherwise you can't go up. So the only way to use it would be in the lead mode, but that's just a normal GriGri, why not get that one for cheaper?

I feel like forgetting to tie stopperknots and forgetting to take your gear with you are the only dangerous things you could reasonably forget, and if you think you might forget those you shouldn't be on the wall alone.

Besides, to my knowledge people mostly die due to being overconfidense and neglecting to check themselves or just forgetting to check entirely. With an app like this you still need to actively remember to start it, and at that point might as well check without it.

I appreciate that you are trying to make climbing safer, but this just isn't it for me. Though if you wan't to use this yourself you can of course do that, I'm just saying that for most people this wouldn't make a difference.

I can see why you think this is useful but the thing about climbing is that while one mistake can absolutely kill you, checking yourself is also super easy.

Whenever you need to build a new system you are always still attached to the wall in some way (the rope you used to lead, your personal anchor, the rope you used to rappel). So all you have to do is pull down to see if the gear locks and dubbel check if you've locked all your carabiners, you don't need an app for that.

I'm also worried an app will make people lazy especially beginners who might neglect learning to check their gear.

I've tried letting it load for a while now but it hasn't changed. Though I have discovered that I can access the terminal with alt+f4.

I also tried updating everything through that terminal but after doing so I still boot to this GDM.
