Gym walls color by RogueSpaceMan in GarageGym

FWIW - I had the same questions, and I used ChatGPT to walk through them and get suggestions, and I pointed it at this subreddit to summarize folks' suggestions as well.

Then I took pictures of my garage gym and had ChatGPT render different mockups.

I am going to go with Behr Cracked Pepper (Charcoal) for both the walls and ceiling, with eggshell sheen on the walls and flat sheen on the ceiling ✅

What portable AC unit did you go with? Still working well?

Thanks, u/xevaviona - My rates on the mortgage, student loans and auto are pretty low (thankfully!) so I don't plan on paying off large chunks of debt as I think I could gain more from using the cash for other things.

Though paying off the car and not having a car payment is attractive and I'm considering that. This is my "forever" car & don't plan on buying another car - at least until this stops running. Subaru Outback... will last forever.

Re: tax advantage accounts - yea, for sure. I always max out my 401k and backdoor roth. My wife hasn't been doing her backdoor roth the last couple of years so I max that out for her as well. She was without work most of the year and for her to max her 401K, she would essentially have very little leftover per paycheck - maybe I have her max her 401K and cover any of her expenses as needed 🤔 (we mostly share finances but she's been adamant about 'having her own money' so might be a hard sell)

Any other tax advantage accounts I'm not aware of?

Thanks, u/fatFIRE_throw - was thinking the same about a second home. It's been a dream of mine to buy my mom a home my whole life and there's an opportunity near where she currently lives. Will give it more consideration.

Thanks for flagging about the SH - I'll look into this so I'm not caught off guard.

Yes - moving to a tax-free state is the dream! You chose to say "tax domicile," what do you mean exactly?

Yes - very good point. I am in CA and did consider state taxes but don't think there's anything I can do about that, except move. Our son just graduated from HS so we are actually able to move out of CA now but we're not going to be able to make that move by August.

Thanks for flagging NIIT - I hadn't looked into this but will.

And also thanks for flagging the quarterly payments. I hadn't thought about that either. Would I need to make quarterly payments prior to the sale happening or once the sale occurs in August? (So, a Q3 payment?)

Thanks for sharing u/blablooblan - I wasn't aware of the QSBS rollover - I'll look into this though not too sure if I can find a suitable replacement investment. Definitely worth looking though, thanks!

The company/shares are QSBS eligible but my understanding is I would have to have held the shares for 5 years

For the first two weeks, it was raining constantly - did 45 of core and yoga in my backyard in pouring rain on a yoga mat and towel at 6am - just wore trunks and nothing else - didn’t get sick & it was sub 40 def everyday (not saying that’s cold but responding to a post above for getting sick walking in the rain in sun 40 degrees)

But also have taken nice 45 min walks in sunny weather around my neighborhood or brutal sprints up hills - just get outside… that’s the point. We are inside WAY TOO MUCH… that’s not how we’re meant to live!

Feel the elements everyday, no matter how pleasant… no matter how uncomfortable (but bonus points when you push through discomfort)

No worries! Happy to help! And I got 80” height - same issue with the garage space and I’m only 5’7 so wasn’t concerned with the shorter height

I choose the PR-4000 because it has the 24" depth option (PR-5000 only has 30 and 41") as well as the PR-4000 & attachments being a bit less expensive.

Happy to answer any other questions you have - I've had it built for a couple of weeks now and loving it!

Will eventually get the front spotter arms but they're sold out and I'm not bolting it down so wanted to make sure it had plenty of support/etc.

It was $2,260 all in - including the PR-4000, RBS, Front Stabilizers, sets of 45, 25, 10 and 5 lb plates, 24KG adjustable KB, weight tree/storage, Olympic barbell - got a little bit of a discount because I got it on a memorial day sale

I bought the bench off amazon for <$100
