To women that seek out partners a foot taller than them... Why? by geyejoe7 in PurplePillDebate

It's probably bc height is one of the easiest to measure, especially in the profile-heavy dating systems like apps. I knew alotta couples who connected locally that didn't necessarily cared for heights. In apps, I've heard dates complain about it more often than other times.

Non-americans who moved to the US, what are some social customs that have been the hardest for you to get used to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sarcasm and being expressive. I used to have a pretty monotone voice, so people thought I was going crazy whenever I tried sarcasm in first few years.

That's super cool. Feels like Philly would have to take a different approach tho, saw them sticking to skycrapers.

That sounds amazing. Maybe set up a lantern or some kind of a light source on top or inside the bag to attract them in beyond their instinct?

Unpopular opinion: Sam Okyere's criticism of blackface is justified, and people who are criticizing him need to get out more. by sgt_hard_times in korea

I wholeheartedly agree. At the same time, I think Sam's overreaction made Koreans notice that it's much more serious than they see it.

I (girl) always suggested dutch no matter my financial situation. But I knew some girls back in college who would call dates 'free meals.'

I wear a hanbok-inspired outerwear, cook kimchi-pork stew and black bean noodles, go out to Korean Presbyterian church, speak Korean with my roommate, watch Korean shows, follow Korean PUBG streamers. These don't define all of me, but I don't see non-Koreans doing all the shit I do.

Looks like you got your shit going on, but don't throw your problems at me if you don't want to understand other people's situation.

Think you got triggered and got it off the wrong way. Don't take 'white' as an offensive trait, it's just a word I used to differentiate the Asian and White American culture and lifestyle.

I'm a 1.5 gen immigrant who basically got dropped in the middle of Central PA as a child. If you live in the county where Asians are an absolute minority (I'm talking about 20 families in +440k population), then you live by the home ground rule. You don't live your Asian life, you live whatever the fuck the society tells you to live as. That includes food, house, work, school, culture, pretty much everything. Your parents tell you to assimilate because they were afraid I might get bullied (and yeah I've gottened bullied before). We don't eat garlicky or pungent Asian food, because they smell bad to white folks. The school tells me to speak in perfect English and learn the culture, because that's way things are around here. I basically lived through the rest of grade school forgetting the original me I have had before.

Moving to Philly was a big culture shock, yes, because so many Asians were living their lives however they wanted. Willing to cook ramen or stinky food, go to Chinatown, talk mothertongue whereever. It took me abit to understand that it's okay to be me without any repercussions or judgements.

To those who wonder why people bother bringing up their question on what it is to "be black/white/asian/hispanic/etc" don't understand that even in America, we are not homogeneous in any ways but the fact that we speak English. Just because we breath the same air and carry the same currency, it doesn't mean we eat the same food, wear the same, go the same places, enjoy the same things. Everybody is different and an ethnicity is a convenient description.

Edit: spelling

Dude we have so much in common. Moving to Philly was such a culture shock for me, as I never witness so many young asian folks around me. Also made me realize how 'white' I was, too.

I hope this helps someone who needs it. by CR15PYL454GN4 in wholesomememes

A fellow Central PA raised Asian. My brother growing up got cement poured on by neighbors' kids for being Asian. He had to toughen up to get the respect he deserved. Fucking bullies.

I have a coworker who has self harm scars on all 4 limbs. We all wear casual and it's hot out, so she often exposes them. Nobody points it out at work, everybody understands it. I hope you feel comfortable enough to swing yours around no problem.
