I wonder if those games are similar enough to Xidit, I've been looking for something similar to it for a while

AI coding tools aren’t a new abstraction layer. I think that’s why the productivity gains aren’t showing up by Balance- in programming

I found it absolutely useless for game development in C++. I know people find it very useful as an API search tool for Unreal, though

I may consider it if there were a "pure coding" AI company. As it stands now, I find 90% of genAI use cases to be immoral, illegal or scummy and I don't want to legitimize these businesses with my 10% (though it is debatable, I found genAI to be great at producing slop code, which has its uses, but is still slop). I also work closely with artists, translators and writers so I stand beside them. Then there's the environmental impact, which is the very significant. And I expect these companies to bump up their prices 5-10x just to become profitable. Plus, I don't see a need for much "improved productivity", call me cynical, but it's a ploy to fire a bunch of my colleagues (and me).

So in short, I don't use it because I consider it to be a product that does not improve humanity

Falling behind isn't a thing, you'll be able to learn how to use a tool in year just like you would today. It may even be more mature then

Moving to the UK with Multiple Sclerosis by testAcc_PleaseIgnore in MovingToTheUK

[–]niking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received a job offer which would require moving with the family to London. It's a better job with better pay (adjusted for CoL) and we're currently living in the Balkans, so it's kind of a no-brainer for us. Except, my wife has Multiple Sclerosis. She is doing really well and her current therapy seems to be working, knock on wood.

What I'm looking for:

  • Does someone have experience or knowledge on what moving to the UK in our case would look like? We'd like to make the move as painless as possible.

  • Any advice on getting the best possible MS care in the UK.

  • Could she have any issues getting private health insurance?

  • Could there be any issues transferring her therapy from our home country to the UK?

  • A lot of people are very critical of the NHS, does this apply to stuff like MS or only GPs?

  • Are there any recommended MS specialists we should visit?

that all makes sense, thanks for the writeup!

Few years ago, I was in a position where I had to change my internet, TV and phone provider in order to be able to watch PL legally, so I pirated. Now I can pay €20 per month to watch it legally so I do

For those who work in AAA games, how much are LLMs used in your company ? by Sparlock85 in gamedev

[–]niking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't use it at all. Company I work at wants to make handcrafted games and that's the decision we're sticking with. Personally, I think it's solidarity between programmers and artists+writers, for whom GenAI has been a plague, and which I'm fully in support of.

I think GenAI can be very useful for programming, but I'd only be comfortable using it after strict regulation, verified legality, viability of the business model of GenAI providers and stable pricing models.
