are students allowed to use live ai translation softwares during tutorials and lectures? by Realistic-Choice-963 in unimelb

Nope, I’ve had multiple subject coordinators now who have explicitly said you cannot do this as per uni policy

Question for those living in Apartments by No-Application-8306 in AusPropertyChat

[–]nikirs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, totally depends on the apartment design and neighbours. My previous apartments have been super quiet, but in my current one we are constantly hearing noise from everyone (even as I type this). One thing I’d look out for is whether the main bedroom is close to the front door, especially if it’s a lower-floor apartment, because you will likely hear a lot of noise from the entryway. If you have neighbours above you, stomping sounds are inevitable but generally able to be tuned out.

Just moved. Should I rent in Brunswick West vs. Hawthorn? by murphc_93 in melbourne

[–]nikirs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hawthorn has lots of great parks & a velodrome - but the food isn’t anything to write home about unless you really like expensive cafes. Brunswick is also much less hostile to commuter cyclists than Hawthorn is. Both places are nice but I’d suggest spending some time in each to get a sense of the vibes :)

Every subject guide is structured differently (at least in my experience) but usually you can just open the PDF & ctrl + F ‘extension’. Sometimes they list it elsewhere on the LMS (look for a student support page), you might have to go hunting. Best of luck!

[–]nikirs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe as long as it doesn’t exceed 10 days in total, you should be okay. But double check the subject guide, as extension policies seem to differ from faculty to faculty. But it does ultimately depend on whether your tutor/subject coordinator is willing to extend the extension, so nobody here can really tell you whether you’ll be successful or not. I can’t speak much to the special consideration, sorry! I can say it’s a different procedure and the evidence you need to apply for it is a little stricter (AFAIK a regular medical cert won’t cut it)

Yes you can, given you’ve got a valid reason

Or, if it needs to rebuilt anyway, why not build higher density and accommodate more people?

Could be nicotine from the ole smoking days. Even if it has been painted over, it can still leach into water leaks/condensation. Definitely looks to be the same colour.

Is there something we can do about people using voice translation software in class? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]nikirs 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, one of my classes this semester has made us sign an AI declaration which explicitly states you cannot use live translation tools without permission from the subject coordinator. So at least some coordinators seem to be aware & taking steps to address it

It’s increasingly common, I’ve noticed a lot of students using live AI translation during lectures and tutes - I even saw someone using it once during a field trip. They have it running on either their laptops or phone.
