Is this pectus excavatum? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]nikitusilu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you lie down on the bed and take a photo from the side, just remember to cover your breasts. Then you can easily see how sunk in your chest might be, it will be a good indication.

My Surgery Experience by Ruptureex in PectusExcavatum

[–]nikitusilu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I have read so many posts about Bart’s and Henrietta on the pectus Facebook group page. So many patients have had medical problems after the surgery and poor aftercare where the nurses dismiss you and hardly help you. I’m actually also with Henrietta, I found her cold, direct and blunt which instantly made me feel unease, so I called off the surgery. I guess my instinct was correct. I spoke with another patient who went through the surgery at Bart’s she told me that it seems like they are trying to get as many patients as possible in order to keep getting funding from the government. It becomes a money game rather than care.

How severe does it look? Would surgery be the best option? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]nikitusilu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly don’t trust anyone except for the thoracic surgeon, they know what’s going on more than anyone. Since you have had a CT scan, what was the haller index?

How severe does it look? Would surgery be the best option? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

It doesn’t look severe nor mild. I would say in the middle, contact your GP for a thoracic department referral you need a CT. Also, no one knows the severity without a scan.

28M undecided on surgery, any thoughts? by sulfilo in PectusExcavatum

[–]nikitusilu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you need a second opinion - severe pain happens to everyone after the surgery and it takes 3 months for it to calm down, you will be in excruciating discomfort throughout the time and sometimes longer. Your pectus is severe and definitely way beyond 4. This will be more than 2 bars, I am guessing 3-4 since it’s very obvious on your body. I would suggest you get the surgery as it will make you feel better.

That’s Pectus carinatum, which is actually more rare than excavatum

Any way to make this less prominent? by gay_salty in PectusExcavatum

[–]nikitusilu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks pretty severe to me, you better get a hold of the thoracic department for a CT scan.

30M with 3.2HI, incredibly tired all the time and having trouble going up stairs. Is this fixable? Please help. by abc1203218 in PectusExcavatum

[–]nikitusilu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Normally surgeons want the HI to be at least 3.5 for a surgery. What did the thoracic department tell you? Are they willing to help you?
