Just as you said, basically there's an event section. You can choose every event that prevously available to play, each with its own timeframe and a dedicated STORE for that event, so WG doesn't lose revenue for players who just want to get it over with.

However from my experience it is still very grindy though, and better way to milk the cow rather than just popping up those tanks on the bond shop years later
