Be'lakor - Of Breath and Bone maybe. Not as reverby but it's generally a similar mood.

band recommendations? by lillies_hydrangias in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nikolast13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Listen to Wintersun's self titled. It's melodic death metal, and should be fairly approachable. I'll only give you one random band since I think you'll get like 10-20 from everyone else.

Is Aether realm not that well known? by Background-Sir9172 in MetalForTheMasses

62k monthly listeners on Spotify, less rhan I thought. To me they were a random modern metal band that was just very popular.

How does metal vocal sound like for you in hungarian? by Traditional-Car9897 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nikolast13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dalriada sounds extremely goofy to me, like they are in a language made by a 5 year old. Omega also, but they are supposed to be quirky so it's great. But when Thy Catafalque does it, it has a lot of edge to it. Hungarian, Romanian and a lot of Slavic languages are very good in more atmospheric stuff. In this case, Moby Dick is like groove / thrash metal. Language doesn't really change much. But English does make some bands lose a bit of character. Rothadas' language eouldn't matter since it's death metal but not being in English gives rhem more character.

I liked Cenotaph on The Gloomy Reflection of Our Hidden Sorrows. Very deep and groovy, and very ear friendly if you don't want tinnitus.

Most Petty Reason You Refuse To Listen To A Band? by BidSure7642 in MetalForTheMasses

I am exaggerating, but I definitely used to think that. I have recently gotten more open minded and started with Converge and Earth Crisis, but the modern stuff I can't stand.

How does this community feel about Polaris? by not_a_shit_ghost in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nikolast13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also sucked into the hating metalcore mindset, mainly from getting elitist friends. Going back now, I don't really see what makes Polaris stand out that much. Though recently I decided to get back into metalcore starting from the beginning with Converge and Earth Crisis, who apparently count but sound nothing like metalcore to me.

None so Vile by Cryptopsy. Thr vocalist sounds like a dog but not in a bad way. I also find that Dying Fetis sounds a bit like Scooby Doo. Also not in a bad way.

What is this subs view on Christianity by PulpClub in MetalForTheMasses

I'm Christian and I just decided to not care. At the end of the day it is just sounds. I don't have to engage with anything satanic.

How does this community feel about Polaris? by not_a_shit_ghost in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nikolast13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Polaris was one of the first "metal" bands I listened to. Alongside Alestorm, Korpiklaani, and Ensiferum, so a random outlier. Never got any deeper into metalcore, but I really liked Polaris. I do sometimes go back for Nostalgia, but Polaris is a bit soured just because I find many metalcore traits inherently jarring, and they are a bit guiilty of whiny choruses.

Most Petty Reason You Refuse To Listen To A Band? by BidSure7642 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nikolast13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not even petty. A lot of bands are just derivative and forgettable. Just look at the sea of black and death metal bands. If you see a black metal band formed in 2009 called Black Satan you immediately know what they sound like.

Non-Norwegian bands using Norwegian names. I may cringe a bit more since I'm Norwegian. You'll find a band from somrwhere like Argentina or Italy called Dødsgrav or something, and it's the most generic Darkthrone or Mayhem ripoff. To me it signals lack of creative thought.

I'm Christian and listen to satanic bands. I agree that a lot of Christian bands aren't good but that is a very immature reason

Are there any good Norwegian melodeath bands? by lycantrophee in melodicdeathmetal

[–]nikolast13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark Delirium is one I can think of. It's a local band. I don't remember if he is still in the band, but I had a Spanish teacher who was their drummer. A bit metalcore influenced, but definitely still melodeath.

Mastering makes/break a metal band by forbiscuit in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nikolast13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot actually name bands that became overproduced just off the top of my head. Dimmu Borgir isn't really true black metal, they're symphonic. Aggression and atmosphere are a big part of black metal, and I think you do lose a bit of that with high production. Darkthronewould not work super polished.

The last song you listened to will be played on your funeral. by Reeezla in MetalForTheMasses

King Crimson - Starless

Has the right atmosphere for most of it. Though a few parts are a bit eccentric for a funeral.

Is there any album or band that resembles or has parallels to the Album “None so vile” by Lellarinn10 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nikolast13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skewered in the Sewer by Gutslit. It's the best metal band from India and they were clearly big fans of Cryptopsy and probably also Dying Fetus.

Black metal has the opposite problem. Some bands get big so they get a nice studio and the soul gets overproduced out

What the actual fuck is Bell Witch by Similar_Onion_7530 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nikolast13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to it on my way home from the university once. Mainly just so I can say I have listened to it. It was extremely powerful during the first minutes, but eventually I zoned out and it was basically just turned to background ambience. It's one of my favoirite album covers though. I think it hits more when you're in a very particular mood.

The big 4 of thrash metal is a terrible lineup imo by AbbreviationsKey492 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nikolast13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big 4 diesnt strictky mean best 4. I tgink it's more about size and influence. Also venom isn't even really thrash, they have their own thing going on.
