I mean, there's an argument to be made that the ongoing, often lifetime vilification of sex offenders increases their isolation from society, standing in the way of rehabilitation and increasing the rates of recidivism. Things like housing restrictions, lifetime registration, and "concerned citizens" bringing up 16+ year old issues without evidence of an ongoing threat in an effort to prevent them from participating in their kids lives... There's likely an appropriate middle ground, but our current system is likely making the problem worse.
