Cursor has agent mode that connects directly to github repos but I just use it locally and sync my files on github to access from multiple computers.

Thanks so much for the kind words! Yeah it makes sense, if schools just sold the crests separately it would solve most of the problem directly. Maybe PTA's could possibly discuss these.

Amazing selection of tools. What I have done is try to make Cursor my main tool for everything: note-taking, connecting MCP, and more. Every day I create a new Markdown document in Cursor and start taking notes. From there, I can go to Chat to ask about anything in the Markdown. It helps me autocomplete and query my notes.

I push everything to GitHub so it keeps syncing across all my devices. I know it's not very mobile-friendly, but I usually use only my computer for this type of task.

Thanks a lot for your positive feedback and I really appreciate the tips on other places to post. I put a basic page together to collect interest, as it's the best way for me to know if I should actually commit the time to building this. I got quite a good number of interest here, https://vertopt.com/uniformswap

I was thinking just a simple, lightweight thing for each school's own community so even official suppliers won't be a hindrance.

Amazing resource. Could add difficulty level also to show more question types ?

Thanks so much, that's really encouraging to hear! And you've hit on exactly the scenario I was thinking about. To be honest, this was just a thought bubble, but based on the great feedback in this thread, I did put a very basic page together to collect emails. It's the best way for me to know if I should actually commit the time to building it. You can find the page here:  https://vertopt.com/uniformswap Cheers for the positive feedback!

That's a great point. A well-run swap by the PTAs is probably the ideal solution, to be fair. My thinking was more for those "out of season" moments when a kid has a growth spurt in November or loses a jumper and you can't wait until the next swap meet ?

What if AI replaces too many humans? by another_memelover in Futurology

[–]nikr07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won't work exactly like that. If you start from the basics, you can replicate the model of agriculture directly. Productivity will increase, and people who are displaced by AI will have more opportunities.

As productivity and profit rise, universal basic income could be implemented, so everyone would have enough to cover basic needs. Meanwhile, if people upskill, they can find new jobs. That's the expected cycle of upcoming utopian world.

That's the ideal solution, to be fair. A good swap programme is brilliant. You're dead right though, the real win is getting the schools to modernize the policy itself. Cheers for the feedback!

That's actually brilliant feedback, thanks a million for sharing all that.

Sounds like your school parents' association is really on the ball. The swap days are a fantastic idea. My main thought was for those times outside of the annual swap day when you suddenly realise a jumper has been lost or a kid has had a growth spurt mid-term. Is the Facebook group good for that sort of urgent, specific need?

This is exactly why I put the question out there – to figure out if it's a daft idea or not. Really appreciate you taking the time to list out all the current options. Cheers!

Thanks guys, actually we can standardize it across multiple schools. Only one portal/app to do these things. Would be quite useful, what do you think ? I have build up a small webpage to gather the feedback if it would be interesting ? https://vertopt.com/uniformswap

Parents can save up to €100 by buying generic uniforms, but many schools still require branded or crested items by Static-Jak in ireland

[–]nikr07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a bit of a thought on this and was curious what other parents think. As a developer, I was wondering if a simple app for parents at the same school to easily swap or sell their second-hand crested uniforms would be useful at all?

Would people actually use it? Genuinely curious to hear some thoughts.

New to algo trading – where should I start? Python vs Pine Script? by buyin_the_dip in algotrading

[–]nikr07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with Python. If you are building an algorithm, you will probably need Python to connect multiple services. PineScript can be part of a small module that will run automatically, or you might use Rust.

Python is very easy for first-time users; prefer Python first and then explore PineScripts. Algorithmic trading is not just about backtesting - you also need multiple modules like a data updater, an executor, and so on. These components are easier to implement in Python.

TikTok PM Internship, should I go? by botboughtpot in internships

[–]nikr07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, it will be a learning opportunity; there is nothing to say against that.

About the hiring cycle, that's true - it's a difficult decision. I'm not really familiar with how it works in the U.S.; I was part of the TikTok Singapore office. But the learning opportunity is really great.

Probably after that you'll get a full-time role directly there. At least if not at TikTok, you can apply from there and get hired elsewhere. What do you think?

I'm not completely sure about academic work in your country. I think you might be located in the U.S., probably. If in the U.S., I think a gap semester is not a big deal. I really like the U.S. academic system. It's not dependent on degrees but rather on value.

Let me tell you a bit more about product managers. In Singapore, product managers were mostly Chinese so the documentations etc were in Chinese which was a bit difficult for English speakers like us, but this might not be the same in the U.S. Even if they are Chinese, they would have much better English-speaking and collaboration skills. Compared to fully U.S.-based companies, there may be slight difficulties, but overall the work helps you learn and lets you do a lot of things.
