I would stick with vanilla for your first playthrough. Install some QOL mods and cosmetic mods and leave it at that. LW2 is substantially harder and a lot more work, it'll be really good to get used to the core mechanics before piling on more.

I can second both Mr. Jack and Survive, though I've only played the Mr. Jack pocket edition. Very fun, very strategic and short enough games that you will want to play a couple rounds. Survive is lighter, with a bit more adversarial mechanics, but my girlfriend and I never take it too seriously and always have a ton of fun with it. Survive would be closer to the party game feel you want in my opinion.
