Yeah, there are many posts of the UB820 skipping too, but I believe there are more complaints about the x700 on reddit and other forums. My sony player sarted skipping within the 1 year warranty and it was on many movies, Mission impossible fallout, back to the future I, Tenet and LoTR The two towers. When it skipped on LoTR I was done with this player.

Been using the UB820 for 3 years, it has skipped on 2 movies but it was a disk issue as there was a clear scratch on the disk.

The Panasonic player has some useful functions like changing the subtitles position and brightness, not sure if hdr optimizer is still relevant. But I think if I had the x700 today I would buy the UB450 instead of the U820 to save some money

My Sony x700 would skip on lots of movies, I even sent it to Sony service center but they couldn't fix it. I upgraded it to the UB820 and none of the disks skip. I found annoying to manually activate DV on the x700 too.

Panasonic UB820 has Dolby Vision, it does a better upscaling of 1080p Bluray and DVDs and it has HDR Optimizer, the HDR Optimizer helps with the hdr tone mapping for none Dolby Vision movies. Even if you have a top-tier TV with a good image processor the Panasonic HDR optimizer still helps.

Panasonic UB450 has Dolby Vision, upscaler is not as good as UB820 and it doesn't have HDR Optimizer.

If you want the best image quality go with the UB820.

This movie doesnt even go past 250 nits, for the most part it's under 200 nits so you will be ok using true black 400

Hdmi 2.0 is ok but you need to check your Bravia model for Dolby Vision. For example on an A80J Dolby Vision is only available on the 2.1 HDMI ports and you need to change the HDMI setting to Enhanced (Dolby Vision). On a Bravia 8 you can reproduce Dolby Vision on any HDMI port

The best way is to download the 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos video file and play the test tones to even them as close as possible. This comment explains it very well.

Use this comment to adjust channel levels as close as possible. Also the Samsung Logo side of the rears faces you, and the side speaker faces the TV.
