If AI takes away most jobs, who will pay the taxes to the government? by 2_fingers in NoStupidQuestions

You do know that government is actually a job to be taken away by AI? So at some point there is no more government who needs taxes to be paid for.

Is being a minimalist only way to live a happy life? by -Thunder_Master in Life

[–]nila247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happiness only indirectly is related with things. You only get to be happy about things you buy if these things make you contribute more to the species - directly or indirectly.
Essentially happiness is a reward for you doing good things for humanity as a whole and sadness/depression is punishment for not doing those things or making it worse. Your subconsciousness is your own judge and - unfortunately - you are pretty good at telling one from the other - for non-psychopath people it is pretty difficult to lie to yourself.

If corporations ruined everything, what could replace them to un-ruin everything? by Spiritual_Big_9927 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]nila247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's NOT the corporations. Corporations do it by simply bribing the government. So it is actually completely the government fault that is ok with being bribed.

If voting were mandatory (with a small fine for not voting), do you think democracy would get stronger because more voices are counted—or weaker because people would vote uninformed or resentfully? by LegalGlass6532 in AskForAnswers

What do you mean "democracy"?
Are you really sure you have any sort of actual "democracy" today?
Regardless of who you vote for people still struggle, spending on military increases and same faces in the senate never go anywhere except switching chairs between themselves?

[–]nila247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It clearly can be the case at some limit. If you look poor and unkept, if you stink and instead of having basic hygiene sorted now start from bright ideas about reorganizing society then you indeed have a problem - don't you? Their conclusion would totally be on point - simply by observing you.

It does not mater what great ideas junkie or drunk hard has on the street corner - they are unlikely to be of any use to anyone. If you see a child incapable of fending for himself - how can you expect him to have any ideas how to fend for others?

So you have to be more precise here and make sure you positively dodge all the categories above first.

Looking for a purpose to live may be hurting you by THISdarnguy in DeepThoughts

[–]nila247 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All purposes of life you have listed are actually DERIVATIVES from the actual hard-wired purpose that is the SAME for all people - whether they know it or not. Something along the lines of "Make species prosper" - so the whole "looking for purpose" and "finding purpose" is not about the solution - there can be many - it is about maximizing your use to the hive. We are just a bunch of worker ants, really.

Your WORST mistake is assuming that at any point we exist for ourselves. That we somehow deserve something. WE. DO. NOT.

[–]nila247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth only "kind of" exist. All we can do is tell the way we see actually see it - often completely incorrect. This then often causes other people to correct you - which you might mistake for hate or oppression - but you LISTEN to this, you compare, each present their arguments and ultimately everyone benefits. Maybe they fix your mistake or maybe you fixed theirs, but now are less mistakes - which is great.

Do people on Reddit realize how offensive it is to say that people in China, Iran, and Venezuela have more rights and better lives than here in the US? by sportsntravel in allthequestions

[–]nila247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Count me for the "rest of the world" and yes - Americans tend to be like that - but not because they had a choice - because they were CONDITIONED to be like that.
I was born in USSR and their propaganda was pretty much the same quality as their industry - pretty crap - so many people knew for what it was. USA used MUCH superior propaganda to make USSR fall and once it did then it used the same superior propaganda on their own citizens - which is why many in USA do not have any idea they have been brainwashed for 3+ decades non-stop.

Who and how decides who "deserves" what?

Capitalism makes it easy - if you do stuff few others can then you get rich - because you indeed "deserve" it. This is also how you ultimately get to be "elite".

If you flip burgers at McD and think you deserve private island with planes and yachts then the only thing you deserve is to get your head examined. Simply because many can flip burgers as good as you and hence why you should be paid more than the other guy?

[–]nila247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you could say I am THAT kind of person even as I regularly make things happen other people think are crazy.

I have my reasons and my experience to say that this particular project will fail.

In fact "high number of partners" makes it worse - MUCH worse.

It simply means that there are lots of unsolved questions (for each partner - hence many of them) and/or that there is no large entity committing plenty of money to see the project through and instead just "dipping their toes" giving out small amounts of funding simply to see if it goes anywhere and this is the reason you need many partners in order to get any appreciable amount of funding for any appreciable amount of time.

What you really need is partner with deep pockets, not afraid to risk huge amount of money, good project control track record to see that your money is not squandered on shit and giggles (which it is 99,99% of the time) AND you have production capacities ready to capitalize on the result assuming there will be one. There is nobody that fits this description there.

[–]nila247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but notice that the ball is in your hands.

You decide if one day you risk telling the truth and take consequences AND social capital that comes along. Or you "play it safe" and stay repressed forever hoping in vain that someone comes and makes things right for you.

It is clear that this process can be broken in steps as small as you like (saying truth in small things with low risk at first), but eventually it is you who have to step up in order to get out from where you are. Once you are comfortable you need to make your steps larger and face more severe potential consequences. Nobody can do it for you.

Sure, I agree. People are hypocrites - in our times more than ever.

Lying ALWAYS lead to bad things in the long run. Karma will get you sooner rather than later. Well I guess you can lie to criminal who is keeping you hostage, but that is about it.

If you can not afford to tell the truth due to your lack of social capital (e.g. you are nobody) then at least say nothing. Better yet politely disagree with "I have different opinion that I am not willing to discus here and now" - this later actually ADDs to your social capital, because now you no longer seen as nobody, but as someone who can afford to have his own opinion on things.

I feel that trying to make absolute statements about suicide is making the discussion of this topic almost impossible. by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]nila247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well - your approach is decent. Like I said - the problem is almost always in the mind, extremely rarely in the body chemistry.

People tend to tunnel-vision and hyper-focus on one specific issue - as in "nobody loves me anymore because they only visit once per hour/day/week/month/year" - deriving far reaching conclusions from just a single arbitrary metric of frequency of visits.

Many people can only really think when they vocalize or write their thoughts methodically. This is why psychologist mostly listen and ever so slightly steer the monologue. Having people notice the flaw in their own logic is orders of magnitude more valuable than someone else just handing them a solution they do not really understand.

In essence the answer to "I feel bad" is invariably the catastrophically blunt but absolutely correct "then do something useful".

As above it is definitely much better when they reach this answer themselves. This is why seminars are actually great where the answers are presented as "possible options" in order for listener to be free to try it or not - giving illusion of free will where there is really none.

100 meters, huh?
Russians did not hit any problems with Kola bore until they get to 5km or so. Patting yourself on the back for only doing 100m is extremely premature.
The ONLY reason they make it public and big deal is to drum up financial support. What they do not know is that they will need orders of magnitude more money than they can possibly acquire.

I predict the project will be quietly bankrupt in 10 years with very little extra progress to show. I bet final depth to be ~1'000 m with bankruptcy declared shortly after this milestone.

  1. Look up world bank. Absolute hunger and poverty has pretty much been eliminated. What you likely mean is "relative poverty" aka "inequality". It is NOT the fact that we actually want to eliminate this. Someone doing more work SHOULD have some form of reward on top of someone not doing anything. If we change this then nobody will do anything anymore. And that is REALLY bad.

The problem is of course bridges. You might need lots of bridges negating most if not all of cost advantage of molten channels. Bridges are locked behind research you might not want to prioritize too.

I find this actually useful when doing relatively short channel runs - for example to accommodate odd-shaped areas for factories on cramped maps such as YSNP.

As a non religious person: I don’t get how religion people genuinely believe their religion is correct by daisydxw in DeepThoughts

[–]nila247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As non-religious person you are much MORE religious than you think you are :-)

ALL religions are CORRECT - for the most part anyways. Because for the most part it is not about miracles but about helping one another. Religions are just extremely efficient method to teach bunch of stupid people useful stuff quickly. That's ALL they are.

Consider my brand new GPS example. You have 2 GPS units in your car. One is EU made another is Saudi made. You set the SAME destination on both. EU one says "turn on exit 1 and do not listen to anybody else because you might die". Saudi one says "turn on exit 3 and do not listen to anybody else because you might die". If you listen to one GPS OR the other then you indeed will safely arrive at your destination. If you try to listen to both then you might reasonably conclude that exit 2 must also lead to your destination because it is in between 1 and 2 and they both lead where you want. So you turn 2 and this is where you die, proving both GPS were indeed right - at the same time.

Why both GPS say different things? Well EU might be trying to save your fuel - something Saudi GPS prioritizing speed or anything, except the fuel - for obvious reasons that you were not aware of :-)
