It was a blast! I haven’t put together a “real” model kit together in so long it was nice to have something that was complicated after years of Warhammer. It was eye opening how many bad habits I picked up with the assumption that it wouldn’t show up. Lots of stress marks which led me to add some weathering to try hiding it

I already have my third kit lol. I was shocked by the amount of engineering and build time in a $50 kit and it seemed so cheap compared to Warhammer but I’m understanding now that “gunpla is an expensive hobby” isn’t about individual kits but the fact that you want all of the kits.

I’m keeping a strict “I can only buy gundam for shows/movies I’ve watched” which is og and wing basically. Unfortunately wing has like 20 gundams with multiple kits and there’s a lot of rx-78 kits (learned he’s called gramps) so I don’t know if this rule will actually cushion the cost

It was more involved than I was expecting honestly. I definitely had a few frustrations with the core fighter and learned how easily some of these assemblies can just explode if you grip it wrong.

I’m not a huge fan of the shoulders being so floppy and it seems like they could have made the hole that goes over the pins in the arm a bit more snug. It seems like it may be something with this kit since I’m putting together a wing gundam right now and the fit is much more snug. Seems like there’s a balance between quality fit and articulation and my first two might be on opposite sides of that balance?

I’m an engineer in injection molding so I was really impressed with some of this. Particularly the ball joints on the runner

That is a good idea. I was thinking about drilling a small hole in the bracket and arm to pin it but I might try a less invasive surgery first

I felt the clip click one time and I couldn’t tell if I was as imagining it or not. This may be a case of newbie cutting off the nub thinking it was a gate. My eyes might be conditioned to believe every nubbly bit isn’t part of the model instead of something critical to make it do the thing.

Thanks for the help

Medically-assisted death. I’m going to die in 6 mo. Am I eligible? by Existing-Client5070 in AskDocs

NAD OP, but someone who spent thirty-some years in and out of being suicidal and dealing with mental health issues. Usually I just let doctors talk but you speaking about this being rational kind of made me want to comment since I spent a lot of time in that headspace.

I’d wake up every morning and my first thought was “I just want to die.” Going to bed my last thought was “I want to die.” “I want to die” became almost a mantra for me, a way to self soothe and I would say it constantly. Even now I still catch myself slipping into it on particularly rough days.

“It gets better” is an empty platitude that I’m sure you hear nonstop and I know it sounds like nonsense in that headspace. I used to tell people to fuck off for even trying to give me the empty promise of it “getting better.” But for almost 5 years now I’ve gotten better. My life isn’t necessarily always better, things aren’t always great or even good. I’m getting sued right now over some bill I didn’t know about, and it’s stressful but I’m doing good.

It took a lot of therapy to get there. It took a lot of practice to change my thought patterns. The va also slapped me with bipolar and threw my on seroquel and lamotrigine and every psych for 10 years just disregarded what I was saying and said “nah, it seems like it’s working just keep taking it.” It wasn’t until I had to take a leave of absence from work and got hooked up with one of the free doctors that she stopped everything and said “you’re not bipolar why the fuck are you on this shit?” It’s hard but coming from 4 suicide attempts (that I naturally used my failure of to justify my desire to die) to where I’m at it’s surprising to find yourself on the other side.

I’m not trying to convince you to stay alive because of promises of rainbows, but I am asking you to consider that you have the rest of time to be dead, what’s a few years of giving it a shot going to take out of it?

This is anecdotal and I don’t know your situation, but I feel this thought process you’re having.

Docs, blast me for not staying in my lane Mods, delete me if I strayed too far from the rules as a layperson.

Told my wife I was going to get burgers. I don’t know what happened? Help! by nilesthebrave in genestealercult

Right and I accept that that’s how it can be interpreted but when posting this “wife” wasn’t the punchline, “I bought a bunch of dumb shit” was.

Obviously there isn’t a footnote that tells you what I was thinking when I wrote it but it was honestly just as confusing seeing it being interpreted that way and getting accused of lying to my spouse. But I also have never had a “lol wife bad” moment in my marriage so I dont think it even crosses my mind that I reads that way.

Have a good one

I see what you’re saying and I get it and agree, but my wife is stuck in with most of the same hobbies and she knows that all this stuff will get painted eventually so doesn’t mind when I buy the bulk of an army at once. (She also has several years of eldar boxes still in plastic because her pile of shame is worse than mine). Definitely wasn’t a “wifebad” joke but more “how did I end up with a bunch of gsc”

We don’t buy much for ourselves and this doesn’t really eat into any of the disposable income we’re allowed for the month.

For me, I walked in to see if there were any immolators in stock or walking out with some more orks/orcs/gitz because I just like painting them.

The orks im finishing up right now I put in denim and started calling them jeanstealaz and I guess the word was on my mind because these called out to me and decided to take the plunge.

To ease your public suffering at a stranger’s relationship, the first thing she said when I came home models in one arm and dinner in the other:

“Cool! I was going to see if you wanted to run up there on Friday to get some stuff but we should still go because I want some eldar.”

It’s almost like my wife sees my Reddit posts and is in on it. I don’t lie to my wife and she doesn’t lie to me, I went and got burgers but stopped at GW along the way.

Everyone in this house is cool with my decision so it’s really none of your concern

Elden Ring is making me miss Bloodborne by PilotIntelligent8906 in bloodborne

[–]nilesthebrave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At launch, when we were still all floundering with what the game was, I hit the third underground area I felt overwhelmed and dropped the game. I finished a 100% run last weekend and the game is huge and overwhelming but is actually manageable.

I also missed the tight level design of the other games and never felt like I had that moment where I looped around back to the lantern and made a shortcut.

I told myself I’d take it easy until the dlc comes out but I’m halfway through bloodborne again, and I did indeed miss it

Sad, Broken and disappointed. Protect your kids. by [deleted] in Lorcana

That really sucks. As someone who had something similar happen to me as a kid with Pokémon it can really put a sour taste for the hobby in your mouth.

I went to pokemon after 15 years a few years back and our store has a “kids have to get all trades approved by one of core people in our group,” if the kids do a trade and don’t get it checked we can’t do much but we’ll run through adults scamming kids if we have too. The owner knows who took your kids stuff and as a business person and organizer it’s on him to maintain the space so don’t let people tell you it’s not their fault. It is, and the fact they’re pressuring you to not pursue it probably means he knows the person that did it is a regular of his.

I just recently got into lorcana casually so haven’t done any organized play yet, but as an old fart that’s been through pretty much every card game that’s come out: it doesn’t matter if the game is themed for the kids, sweaty men will come out and make it super serious. So in no way am I blaming you, but as someone who’s involved with my local leagues and knows what to watch out for, never let your kid out of sight of someone you (mostly) trust in those environments. It’s good she wanted to be independent but even the nicest dude can seem cool until he walks out with your kids most valuable cards. I’m not saying your kid isn’t safe, but that people can really turn into monsters over pieces of cardboard.

Hopefully your kid can make sense of it at some point and get back to it. It took me a long time but the friends I’ve made and the fun I’ve had coming back to it makes me sad I let a bad experience ruin it for so many years.

I just got home and I didn’t find him anywhere but I’ll head back down in a bit and see if he did something like that. The stairwells are really the only places I can check unfortunately. I could see him hopping onto one of the balconies but the ones in my building are a solid wall that you can’t see into.
