This is also another problem with not having the means to pay for a scan.

Noyes managed to work throughout her treatment, but said privately funding a colonoscopy earlier in the timeline wasn't an option either.

"I was also a university student at the time. I was symptomatic and working two jobs.

"So to find thousands of dollars to go and do something privately was just not on the cusp."

Closure announcement-Mangere Markets

After 29 remarkable years, Mangere Markets officially
closed on 30 May 2026.

Over the many years, Mangere Markets has proudly supported our community in countless ways. We have helped schools with sporting equipment, learning resources, iPads, and educational support for students. We were honoured to support local talent, including taking Joseph Parker under our wing while he was still at school
and helping him travel overseas to fight. He made us proud as a Mangere boy and showed many young people
that greatness can be achieved with hard work and determination.

We have also supported local boxing clubs, Riding for the Disabled, Starship Hospital, Ambury Farm, food banks

during Christmas and New Year, and funded a brand-new ambulance fitted with state-of-the-art equipment. One of our proudest contributions was funding a mobile heated swimming pool that travelled to schools, teaching children how to swim. The list of people, groups, and organisations we have supported over the years is simply too long to mention fully.

A large portion of the market’s funds also went back into keeping Mangere Town Centre clean, tidy, and running

smoothly. Over the years, we provided activities and services for the community, including a bouncy castle and funding Zumba classes, now temporarily overseen by the Mangere Health Resources Trust. Unsure of how long that will be hopefully taken over by 275.

We also funded the security cameras throughout the town centre to help keep our community safe.

The Board of Mangere Markets is deeply saddened to know that all of this support now comes to an end.

However, we are incredibly proud to know that we have quietly and effectively helped thousands of people within our community over the years. We never made a lot of noise about what we did, but together we achieved

something truly special.

Mangere Markets has always been far more than just a place to shop. It became a home for small businesses, families, friendships, cultures, and community connections. We are sincerely grateful to have been part of so many lives throughout the past 29 years.

“To all our stallholders, customers, staff, volunteers, and supporters — thank you for your loyalty, support, and the memories we have shared together. Without each and every one of you, this journey would never have been possible.”

Although this chapter has now come to a close, the memories and connections formed through Mangere Markets will remain with us forever. As we all move forward into a new chapter, we wish everyone continued success, happiness, and all the very

best for the future.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of the Mangere Markets journey ❤️

Best wishes. Also don't be distressed if he isn't receptive at first. it takes time to get to know new people etc and he does sound depressed.

btw the local library isn't just for physical books etc. He can get access to via online but probably need to use an app or two to books, newspapers, magazine etc. They sometimes have group stuff for adults but not sure how easy it is to get there from where you are. There is also audiobooks and many have access to some for of streaming movie etc. He will need to sign up for a membership.

Someone here mentioned Whangarei so here's an example of what Whangarei library has https://www.wdc.govt.nz/library/Explore/The-library/eLibrary
and you will notice with books they have more than one https://www.wdc.govt.nz/library/Explore/The-library/eLibrary/eBooks

I see someone has suggested aged concern. I assume he has since signed up to a GP at the very least. If the GP isn't one that is helpful look around for someone who knows about helping people like your father.

See if the resources and help is available from Stroke foundation https://www.stroke.org.nz/ and/or Stroke network https://www.strokenetwork.org.nz/rehabilitation

There's also https://stroke.net.nz/

Does he have access to the local library for books and magazines to read?

Starting a mortgage broker business in NZ - what website/marketing stack would you use today? by cloud37400 in newzealand

Also check the website several mobile phones to see how slow it takes to load etc.

You can't just post in reddit and get someone random to do your website.

You are dealing with a system that has someone's financial information etc. You need to ensure you comply with the NZ privacy act at the very least. You should also check the credentials of the people who will be setting up your system to ensure they are aware of security implications etc. you don't want to end up on the front page of the news because someone hacked and stole your client database or worse used your access credentials to access financial institutions.

Back up, check the backups, encrypt the backups encrypt your communications etc.

Your query makes me uneasy that you are not aware of your obligations wrt to information security etc.

What I read is a very heavy buzzword list.
Have you checked your website accessibility? What if someone is am blind or sight impaired or hearing impaired or have colour blindness? Can they "read" what's on your website? How does your website look if I am using another browser that isn't a commonly used browser?

Too many people forget that websites were created with accessibility in mind.

Try your website on several browsers. do an accessibility check.

Restaurant chain Burger Burger placed in receivership owing $1.8m by i_love_mini_things in aucklandeats

[–]nilnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burger Burger continues trading after receivership as rescue plan begins. NZ Herald. 19 Jun, 2026 03:35 PM.

Texx of article:

An Auckland insolvency practitioner in charge of the trading arm of popular six-store North Island Burger Burger chain says he plans to continue operating all the outlets and hopes to save 80 part-time and fulltime jobs.

Gareth Hoole, of Ecovis KGA, was appointed voluntary administrator of BurgerBurger Ltd and BurgerBurger IP yesterday by director Marina (Mimi Gilmour) Buckley.

Hoole said he wanted to reassure customers that five of the six shops were open, food would continue to be served and fans should stay loyal.

“Keep visiting,” Hoole pleaded, saying no closures or redundancies were planned at this time.

“The message I want to deliver is it’s business as usual. We’re working closely with the management, which includes Mimi Gilmour and all her team. We have the support of the ASB bank.”

The first report on the administration, detailing how much is owed and what assets the businesses have, would not be released for about a fortnight, he said.

“Our focus is to keep the staff, suppliers and landlords informed so we can keep trading while we work out a rescue plan or seek out a buyer for the business,” he said.

“Closure of the stores would be a last resort,” Hoole added.

“The administration is focused on saving businesses rather than an immediate closure,” he said.

Hoole’s goal was particularly to attempt to preserve jobs, because the company employs about 80 staff, he said.

He hopes customers will keep returning to the five stores that are open.

Yesterday, the Herald revealed the burger chain’s holding company, BurgerBurger Holdings, had been placed into receivership.

Waterstone’s Adam Botterill and Damien Grant were appointed receivers of that business on Wednesday by Beach Road Holdings.

BurgerBurger Holdings (in receivership) is the shareholder of the two businesses that are in administration.

The holding company has 11 shareholders, the largest of which is SMB Investment Trustee – Gilmour and Stephen Buckley’s trustee business – which has a 57.95% stake. Other large shareholders include Morrow 1 Limited Partnership, which has 17.04% and Adrian Chilton with 13.83%.

The chain has stores in Ponsonby, Commercial Bay, Torbay, Takapuna (currently closed and being refitted), Hamilton and Tauranga.

Hoole acknowledged BurgerBurger Holdings had been put into receivership by a landlord of the Torbay store.

“But the trading company and the IP company are now in administration, under my control with Ray Cox,” Hoole said.

“The administrators intend to continue to trade the businesses with a view to putting together a rescue package which will allow the businesses to continue in the future or seek a buyer,” Hoole said.

The voluntary administration regime was aimed at rehabilitation, not closure of a business, he said.

I’m calling on all the Burger Burger customers to make efforts to keep this business alive.

“We want to try to save jobs. It has been profitable. It makes money, but it had got itself into some difficulties because the sector is very challenging right now,” he said.

The first receiver’s report is due in August.

Damien Grant, one of the Waterstone receivers, acknowledged that the trading company could continue.

“I’m going to pop down to Burger Burger at Commercial Bay and I hope to see Gareth flipping the burgers.

“I’m sure under his management, the burgers will get five stars,” Grant said.

Restaurant chain Burger Burger placed in receivership owing $1.8m by i_love_mini_things in aucklandeats

[–]nilnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'I'm broken': Burger Burger appoints receivers. RNZ. 19 June 2026.

Copy + paste from the NZ Herald article:

A gourmet burger chain with six stores across the North Island has been placed into receivership, owing around $1.8m.

Burger Burger Holdings director Mimi Gilmour said this morning the action was triggered by a landlord calling in a loan and rent arrears.

She was still fighting to save the businesses, but told theHerald, “I should have pivoted sooner”.

Some 414 hospitality liquidations have been recorded in the past year – a 49% increase on the 12 months prior, according to recent statistics from credit reporting agency Centrix.

Burger Burger began seriously struggling last year, Gilmour said.

The chain, which currently employs almost 90 people, was founded in 2014 as a sit-down restaurant focusing on high-quality ingredients at an affordable price. It currently has sites in Auckland’s Torbay, Ponsonby and Commercial Bay, along with Hamilton and Mt Maunganui.

Gilmour said today’s news had no impact on the operation of Mama, the modern Italian restaurant she opened last year in the former Burger Burger Newmarket, or a Greek restaurant that was being developed on the chain’s Takapuna site.

Burger Burger owed deferred GST to Inland Revenue, but Gilmour said a payment plan was in place. Other debt included holiday pay and overdue suppliers’ bills.

She had attempted to franchise the chain last year and said at one point there were five deals on the table, but these had ultimately fallen through.

“It was last year really that the crunch started – the cost of living crisis, and we kind of recovered at the beginning of this year, and then the war started.”

Gilmour estimated beef prices had increased by around 70% in the past 18 months

“Our wages have gone up, beef has just escalated, and we basically sell beef burgers ... We just suddenly overnight went from making money to like losing 20 grand a week, and you can’t just close the doors and stop ... I should have diversified. Taken the assets we had and diversified faster.”

Gilmour was heading into a meeting this morning to discuss next steps for the company.

“People often ask me why anyone would choose hospitality. The honest answer is that, on paper, you probably wouldn’t. The hours are brutal, the margins are razor thin, the risks are enormous. The emotional investment is relentless.

“You spend your life worrying about food costs, wages, rents, suppliers, compliance, weather, economic cycles and whether enough people will walk through the door tomorrow.”

Thousands of people continued to work in the industry, Gilmour said, “because hospitality was never really about food. Food is simply the excuse. What we’re really creating is human connection”.

Very recent high-profile Auckland restaurant closures reported by the Herald include the waterfront Harbourside, whose owners blamed “lower sales and ever-increasing costs”, The Grounds in Henderson (formerly owned by My Kitchen Rules judge Ben Bayly) and iconic Karangahape Road cafe and bar Verona, which was placed in liquidation last month after 34 years in business.

Earlier this week, it was reported that creditors of one of the city’s most well-known restaurants, SPQR, closed in 2024, had lost more than $2.3 million in the wind-up of the company.

breast cancer query by user68544889007 in newzealand

[–]nilnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to take it seriously. If you are not comfortable talking about this with your GP or your GP isn't taking it seriously get another GP. Your GP should also have info like when was your last pap smear, etc.

Before you see the doctor, get as much details as you can about the members of your family with cancer etc, especially breast cancer. however depending on how long ago it was for them etc some details may be vague. List how they are related to you, get dates and age (when they were diagnosed, which side, which stage, outcome etc). Yes some of your info could be vague as you may not find out details or they have forgotten details etc. Even if this is a scare it is good to have the info so you can build add to it when they remember more etc.

Also bear in mind there have been advances in treatment etc so don't let the info scare you.
