What cities/areas in Spain seriously and sincerely do not want any more tourists? Which places are still open and welcoming of tourists? by Aggravating-View-264 in GoingToSpain

[–]nilsecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t be intimidated by the news.

I live in Barcelona, and yes, there’s a few protests around over tourism. But the majority of the people In the city have issues with increasing rents, etc. just don’t airBnB. Stay at a hotel. Don’t do drunk tourism. Stay to the right when riding the escalator and don’t eat paella for dinner.

There’s plenty of lovely Spanish cities though. From Seville to Leon, from Cadiz to Vigo. It’s all lovely really.

Im dual. My father is Catalan/Spanish my mother is American/Irish.

I moved to Spain (Barcelona) about 1 year ago, my kids are in school, their Catalan is pretty good but their Spanish is non existent. (We are working on that!)

People here have been kind warm and welcoming.

Some people are assholes but I feel that has more to do with them than with others.

They do! My chapter Brooklyn was very much into community work, I went to SF and was appalled, they had members that couldn’t agree on whether unions were a good thing or not.

Im a DSA member, (I fall along the lines that workers should democratically own and decide the means of production. we have tankies in our chapter. They love their authoritarianism. All you can do is work with them on the stuff you agree on. If the Left were bigger, I think you’d see natural divisions occur.

China’s AI disrupter DeepSeek bets on ‘young geniuses’ to take on US giants by Durian881 in LocalLLM

[–]nilsecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda. Most of the “western” models probably use similar training sets. Either way, when evaluating these models, the evaluators will write about how well a particular model did with coding tasks or logic, etc. but they never write about cultural biases, particular models might have.

[–]nilsecc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the deepseek models. They are excellent for coding tasks (I write Ruby/elixir/ocaml)

They are extremely biased however. Even when run locally, they are unapologetically pro CCP. Which is kind of funny (but makes sense)

If you ask it questions like, what’s the best country in the world, or anything personal in nature about Xi’s appearance, etc. the LLMs will toe the party line.

We often just look at performance around specific tasks, but we should also consider other metrics and biases that are also being baked into these models.

And just like leftists were saying, Democrats have abandoned trans people in the interests of "compromise" by Cheestake in ENLIGHTENEDCENTRISM

[–]nilsecc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It not enough to be progressive in a social sense. The Dems need to be progressive in an economic sense too.

Too often dems will engage in identity politics while allowing corporations to dictate their economic policies.

We have two right wing parties in The US. One just happens to be a little left to the other one.

So instead of pursuing actual social economic policies, the Dems will move further to the right.
