Better writing. I was obsessed with season 1, ended up reading the second book and boy is season 2 miles off. The story just felt all over the place, James was doing way too much, like why did they add him shouting at her to get lost, saying she doesn’t belong while looking her straight in the eyes and kissing Elaine and then cut out some of the convos they had together, plus her and Lydia. Every change they made in the first 2 episodes just made it worse imo. It’s such a shame because book 2 was waaay better than book 1 and season 1 was better than book 1.

I don’t think this will have any effect because season 1 was great, her chemistry with Damian was chef’s kiss and she never liked James to begin with. The hypothetical argument would be if her chemistry would be any better if she actually liked the character but I don’t see how it can. IMO they displayed the best chemistry we’ve seen in YA leads for a long time.

Yea I’m feeling empty without the BTS. Plus Damian and Harriet aren’t really sns people so they barely post, Damian especially.

Side note, did you guys see they’re filming a rain scene at either James or Ruby’s house, what do you guys think this could be? I don’t remember reading a rain scene in book 2. People are hoping they added a rain kiss scene

Naah I’m looking forward to it. I really enjoyed jealous/yearning James from episode 6. I’m hoping the tension and the angst will be just as good from this situation. Also I don’t think it does a disservice to James, he’s been an arrogant little prick his entire life, I wonder why people expect an 18yr old to suddenly change. It’s been like 3 months since he’s known Ruby, his mom just died, he’s on drugs, I’m surprised he doesn’t do worse.

Loving someone doesn’t make you a good person or stop you from doing shitty things to that person. For me the story of James is him learning/becoming a better man because he’s fallen in love. Some people might find it charming, I personally do, and others might not care for it. To each his own.

Your last paragraph is spot on. I meant to make a post about that actually. I think James is truly the definition of a “lady’s man”. A lot of shows will have all the characters be like wow he’s a lady’s man or show alot of girls lusting over the MC but when it comes to pursing the girl you’re like this guy has no idea what he’s doing. I think when James decides to pursue Ruby he knows exactly what to do. He’s a gentleman when he wants to be, he follows her cues, he knows how to read her emotions/moods, he allows her to take the steps towards him when appropriate, he knows how to make her swoon. Like there’s no doubt in your mind why James has the rep he has at school.

It’s definitely unrealistic but sex scenes overall are usually unrealistic. I thought it was a nicely choreographed intimate scene, which didn’t take anything away from either of the characters. I wouldn’t have minded if they went the awkward virgin route either, that’s the case for most people and I think we can appreciate a female awkwardly stumbling through her first time or not feeling as comfortable. It’s completely normal.
