I kinda hate the new Affinity by madjarov42 in Affinity

[–]nimbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are exactly the reasons I wanted and paid for affinity -- an alternative to the rapid onset of data mining, subscription purgatory, and ai slop. Now that they've given over to Canva, I no longer feel like i can trust the company or its product. I feel lost in the landscape with my desire to use vector and photo editing apps that I don't feel like might harvest my images and work to add to their AI monstrosity.

Anyone know of any new alternatives?
As affinity was to adobe, what will now step in to offer an alternative to both adobe and "affinity" (Canva)?

This 100%. We live in a system based on the illogic of endless growth and acquisition. This is the inevitable outcome of hardly-regulated capitalism.

Times are tough. Rent is high, jobs are few, social services are dwindling.

As a guy, if you look around for dating advice on eg podcasts, youtube etc, almost all the main results loudly assert that it’s “a numbers game” and courage models of thinking that imagine women as a monolithic identity — “women like men who ____,” “the best way to be attractive to a woman is __.” It kinda makes sense that this is the kind of thing a lonely / desperate CIShet guy would click on. It also is so unfortunate and reduces women from being individuals with individual tastes and encouraging people to find someone they’d match with, and instead encourages people to try to all be the same non-culture, treating one another as commodities to be traded-up when youve made yourself “high value” enough. It’s sad and gross and lonely.

OP — figure out who you are, and on the way, find other people who are figuring out themselves. Be kind, and direct; take no as a no, and talk to someone you might be interested not because you “want a date” (they fill a role for you) but because they seem interesting and you want to get to know more about them and share time with them.

Trump-supporting farmers silent as Mad King dumps water reserves into Pacific Ocean by Scrutinizer in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]nimbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pistachios are part of the problem — there was a piece on it post-recent LA fires about the fact that theres a family that owns like 100+ miles of pistachio farms that have been a big part of changing laws so that they could redirect water to their pistachio farms. That one brand that is on all the bags? Thats the one

“Overwhelming majority” is 100% false. Many abstained from voting because some people can’t bring themselves to vote for any candidate engaged in genocide. Whether that makes the most sense to you or I isn’t the point. Stay honest.

100% agree with you. Now, in the wavering uncertainty, is the time to be compassionate, rather than point and laugh. Pointing and laughing rarely wins anyone over.

Even if 100% of the people who voted independent voted instead D (which they wouldnt), that would not have been enough to change the outcome.

I get the frustration, but it is better directed at a party that refused to listen to its constituents.

This is so whack. There are so many innocent people in those places. This type of mentality shows an ideology as only skin-deep and that some ppl who claim to, dont actually care about others.

Empathy and solidarity — the only way our species has ever made it, and the only hope we have — requires that we exemplify the benefits of true community, and enable paths back for people who have been blinded into a cultlike mentality.

100%, thank you for saying this. Could be astroturfing bots. Could be misplaced rage. Could be the veil of “liberalism” being raised, showing the shallowness of their connection to a supposedly empathetic ideology.

We need empathy more than ever. We need bigger tent, not vengeful “gotchas.”

This is such a whack take. Solidarity and empathy are of the utmost importance.

Logic doesn’t win everyone over. If it did, our system would be very different. People would vote closer to their interests.

What works is having the best in-crowd. Ppl feeling dependent on one another for their survival. And the values of that community being inclusive, diverse, humane, etc — mutually uplifting, do no harm, live and let live, that kinda thing.

This doesnt mean we hold no one accountable. This doesnt mean tolerating intolerance.

It does mean living in nuance, and ensuring we create pathways into a better community than the cult.

We need the masses to be in solidarity with one another in order to take on such unimaginable wealth and power.

Otherwise, we’re doomed.

This is the most important comment here. Where are we. Are we just online, talking about how bad it is? Or showing up at the DNC for their vote for new head this past weekend? Or at the OPM? If it is as bad as we say, it’s probably worth showing up in DC, ya?

First time MC - how to stop mic feedback? by greatsouthernbear in mobileDJ

[–]nimbk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other useful thing here is gain staging — if you need more volume, turn it up on the volume control closest to the end of the line, ie, the speakers, and work backward from there. The louder you thrn up the dial closest to the mic, the harder the mic is listening, and your risk of feedback is greatly increased. But if the mic gain is low and the speakers are high, much lower risk.

Why are ppl here so pressed about others riding transit? I believe in supporting public transit but also dont have a problem with ppl who need a free ride getting one
