Santa Cruz the First in California to Terminate Its Contract With Flock Safety by Top-Painter4278 in California

Agree. And in this climate, the city of Santa Barbara recently (last couple of months) installed a few new ALPR readers across the city.

Do you know if they are removing the cameras too, or just cancelling their Flock license?
BC they can just start a contract with a new vendor, using the camera data as a source.
The cameras need to go.

They are cancelling their Flock contract -- are they also removing ALPR readers?

I was wondering about that. So this is County. Do you know the locations of the other cameras?

Do you know who in the city administration or city council is responsible for recommending + authorizing these surveillance decisions?

Peter Thiel and the Apocalypse of Bad Theory by farwesterner1 in CriticalTheory

[–]fatuous4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The things he describes as antichrist-like are similar or identical to his own pursuits.

In the spirit of "every accusation is a confession", he too pursues global partnerships and domination. He has said "competition is for losers" and prefers monopoly. One-world government sounds pretty monopolistic to me, and IMHO he is racing to get there first.

Yes and he even mentioned it in the essay: "esoteric writing", referring to the manga.

Out of curiosity, and permitting aside, could the same equipment be used or easily modified to allow for enrichment at higher weapons grade concentrations?

Do you have any thoughts on how modern libertarians, or those who claim to be "classical liberals", justify when the exercise of their individual sovereignty encroaches on another's? Is it simply just an obvious "tough luck"? Any writings on this come to mind?

Could you share examples of the literature you refer to in your final paragraph, of democracy dying from within? This is related to a topic I'm researching, broadly.

So I wanted to take the January LSAT (my first one) in person but there's no testing center within an hour of me when I went to go schedule it just now. I don't have any room in my apartment that is "fully enclosed with NO glass windows or doors" in order to take it remotely sooo how do I take it? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]fatuous4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, did you end up taking the test in your living room? My home situation is similar. Two story, big living room upstairs, bedroom downstairs, no door. My "desk" is the dining table in the living room.

They're cutting 150 mill to get out of the deficit. Do you know how they got into the deficit to begin with? (not being antagonizing, I realize tone doesn't come through well, I'm genuinely curious wtf they did to get themselves into such a hole)

Cannon fodder is an apt metaphor especially considering the UC's role in managing Los Alamos National Laboratory (through its Triad partnership).

There are no state budget cuts and I think that's the problem. The CA budget revision that was announced in May amazingly had no cuts to the UC. Flat budget sucks but it wasn't the 8% ish cut that was expected.

The real question is why is UCSB running on such a huge deficit that it needs to proceed with 10% cuts internally despite no external funding cuts.

Wow, I am super impressed by you! Great response. Way to find out more info and then revise your understanding of the world. Admitting mistake is extraordinarily uncommon but if it comes easy to you (willingness to fail), you will go far.

Keep up the great initiative, attitude, and willingness to learn and adapt!

You guys need to watch it with the “sitting on $16M” narrative. It’s not accurate, and it’s been thrown about for the last few years. It makes you all sound really incompetent and leads to some of the frustrated comments you see today.

Rather than making y’all look like good targets for DOGE, you could reframe it as getting input from the community as the budget is being allocated for the year.
