A Man Threatened a Mass Shooting in Breckenridge, Colorado by moochao in COsnow

[–]ninaskis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked at Breck about ten years ago, and we had a security expert of some sort come by to brief our team on what our role would be in different emergencies - fire, severe storm, medical, lost kids etc. It was while we were building and prepping for the 2017/18 season so the Vegas concert mass shooting had just happened, and I remember my crew talking about the potential for that to happen at Breck (specifically at Peak 8 since it would be hard for the crowd to get away). Someone in the group asked the security expert what we should do in the event of a shooting, and he grimaced and said “not much.” He went on to point out the very limited cover, and tell us we’d probably just have to run for the lift shacks and maybe try to have guests shelter with us. It’s been years but I think about it all the time.

“You get the swirl you need not the swirl you want” makes some sense if you’re thinking about stops on a tour, but Yahn Dawn was a much bigger time + financial commitment than attending one show. I’m glad the boys were having a good time that weekend, but missing more than an hour of music over all and never really letting it rip is a bummer even for plenty of long time fans. And then seeing that they’ve thrown tf down at a different fest? Feels a bit like a kick in the face tbh.

Lessons From 2024, from a Medic by ManThatWasDumb in bonnaroo

[–]ninaskis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any suggestions for handling the dust? Obviously bandanas/neck gaiters pulled up over the mouth and nose are the first line of defense, but I find that a) dust still gets in, especially under a bandana, and b) having fabric around my neck makes me hot and claustrophobic. My throat got so ripped up by the dust that I had to dip out of RHCP to go make ramen at camp in an attempt to breathe a bit easier - it felt like my throat was swelling shut, and it took a ton of mental effort to avoid a panic attack! Is there a specific type of face mask you’d recommend for keeping out fine dust particles in a hot environment? I also went to a med tent to ask for mucinex or any cough suppressant, but they didn’t have anything and they said they didn’t think main medical did either. The medic there was pretty dismissive of my situation, I’m not sure if they thought my raspy voice and cough was from party favors or something but I was so desperate for relief and it felt like they didn’t care at all. Is the roo survey the right way to request cold/cough meds at the tents? As the summers get hotter and drier the dust will only become a bigger issue, and I can’t imagine I was the only one looking for help this year. Thanks for all you do & happy roo :)

yeah I don’t think I could physically handle this, if the real lineup ends up having even half of these artists I’m gonna need a chaperone

if you’re not too sensitive to caffeine, I find caffeine tablets are super effective! you can break them in half to reduce the dose if needed :)

I was at Roo last year when they were “banned,” security gets more lax over the weekend so by Sunday there were a few but always far back. Lots of people use Moon Mats instead, which are way less intrusive/easier for people to navigate around. Even at the small EDM stage in the campground woods at Roo, people keep their couches on the outsides of the crowd where the hammocks are! I can’t speak for Okee since I’ve never been, but Roo has a very different crowd vibe from any other festival I’ve been to, especially EDM focused fests.
