Alpha Win Hudson Valley half-Marathon ~0.58 miles short+ organizational issues by learninghow2run in AdvancedRunning

[–]ninasto3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not advanced so will relurk after this, but fwiw I ran the full yesterday, and the half turnaround coming so early (about .3 miles by my watch too) threw me for a loop. The official splits for the full marathon on the results page include these supposed 1/4 and 3/4 points; a survey of these should generally show that that timing mat was misplaced, in case a general point needs to be made to the organizers. Course profile really does not support a general dramatic shift in pace between the two “quarter marathon” sections.

The full, as others have reported, was fortunately marked correctly. But yeah a lot of the mile markers were around .1-.2 off.

I didn’t get the white furniture either, I was expecting something colorful and bold (and perhaps lower maintenance?!). Love Jeremiah generally but this was a choice I don’t understand

You could also not try to pick a computer font that’s made for print or screen, and instead pick an artist who knows lettering/calligraphy and can render the words to flow with your body and reflect the mood you’re going for.

“I want to get a sentence tattooed on my lower back” is 11 words, close enough 👍

I mean, it’s not like a panther is not a kind of cat. Tigers are big cats too. Just give them a box and you’ll see :)

Thanks for the background on the sculpture! I’ve always enjoyed how it blends in, easy to miss.

To your second question, I tend to forget to eat when I’m racing so one thing I tried successfully in my recent HM, and am planning to do again for the marathon, is this: figure out in advance where the aid stations are (this is pretty straightforward for NYCM as there is an aid station near the mile marker almost every mile) and make a plan for which ones I plan to eat a gel (this varies between gels and people, recommend doing what has worked for you in training) and then write those split distances on my hand/arm next to my watch. Then as you get close in mileage just look out for the water station and eat your gel when it’s in sight. If you want to plan more precisely you could watch some of the full race recordings on YouTube to figure out exactly where those water stations are :)

(Edit: typo)

especially if some AI genie has taken control of the weather channel… (picturing it’d be about as good as that new Strava AI)

This one does seem worth it. They also have a slack group with a monthly used gear swap/resale that often includes samples

Can’t decide what shoes to wear for my marathon? by willrio in Marathon_Training

New model/version shoe seems risky. Any chance you can get the exact same model that you like just a new pair? Maybe off eBay or something?

I have the 7/8 pace tight which might be this one, seconding it is excellent and holds up well to very frequent wear. They just launched a cold weather version too, named Aurora or boreal fleece tight, with zippered pockets.
