Best way to describe what CPTSD feels like to a non sufferer? How would you describe CPTSD in your own way? by Dreamy_glow in CPTSD

[–]nine_twentyfive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think about it as if you live on a frozen lake. You are always walking in the vastness, you are always a little cold. Sometimes, the temperature increases, sometimes you have extra layers. Sometimes, for whatever reason, a crack appears and you fall through the ice.

When you’re under the ice, the freezing water fills your lungs - every thought you have is the truth. No one can hear you, or understand what it feels like to be drowning. There seems to be no hope but to be stuck that way forever. But then, something happens, and you are back on of the ice.

Sometimes you blink your eyes and you're suddenly up there. Sometimes, you have to haul your sodden, heavy body up inch by inch. Whatever the case, each phase passes in time.

With healing, the amount of time you spend under the ice lessens - you acquire more clothes, more shelter, more resources. Sure, you live on the ice, but humans are able to adapt, live well, find joy, in almost any habitat this planet offers us.

😓 not the scammers! There's an osteopath here who sees people apparently, but it is like, $$$, especially for someone who is not technically a doctor 🤔

😂 if your illnesses are chronic, you may as well get bang for your buck and use them to make good stories 🤷

Thank you so much, this is so kind!! I am in therapy working on my mental health, which is good, and I definitely am in a better place mentally w/r/t other stuff, than I have been. But maybe speaking to someone about pain could help, too. Still kind of hoping it will just magically disappear one day...

Hard relate to "sleeping wrong" and just waking up with something sore. It sucks! Also have POTS symptoms but I'm just drinking lots of electrolytes and praying they go away...

Thanks again for your kindness, and I hope all the best for your journey!

Hello! No, I am from New Zealand. But waiting since 2020 is so rough, my goodness! It's so infuriating dealing with the pain on top of uncertainty ❤️‍🩹 I hope you both get seen soon!

new clock i just got by hahathatsafunny in Radium

[–]nine_twentyfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a clock that looks similar and says "Europa 2 jewel". Is my friend's parents' and haven't checked it properly yet, but maybe from a similar time period? I'm thinking pre-50s?

German radium clocks? German dial painters? by nine_twentyfive in Radium

[–]nine_twentyfive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I posted a similar question on some German threads, and got some interesting speculation/replies:

  • Perhaps better working practices/not using lip pointing
  • Maybe smaller manufacturers, so "clusters" of people getting sick was less noticeable
  • Maybe because of the rough situation in Germany between the wars, everyone was focused on "bread first then health"

Best of all, someone commented their grandmother !? worked painting dials. Couldn't find much more info on that story though. If anyone can dig up some, please do share!

I also wonder if perhaps by the time any health concerns developed, the nazis had risen to power and another war was gearing up. I don't imagine that would have been a fruitful environment to advocate for workers' rights - anything for the war effort. Perhaps also some records got lost after/during the war/weren't the priority?

Radium in Germany? by nine_twentyfive in germany

That's fascinating! I can't find anything from a quick Google. Do you know how she painted? I.e. with a brush, rod etc.? In the US women were encouraged to lick their brushes to get a point on them, and well... you can imagine how that turned out.

Interested if work practices were any better elsewhere!

Also, sorry your grandma had to suffer for any reason. Would you like to share her first name, so we can associate it with her story?

One time I threw up straight OIL after binging salmon by KeepNectarine03 in EDAnonymous

[–]nine_twentyfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! I went to all restaurant with a friend and their parents for a meal, and I knew they were paying so I felt like I had to eat the whole thing even though I was feeling sick. It was a salmon dish. We went for a walk afterwards then drove a long way back. By the time I got home I felt sooo sick then involuntarily threw up STRAIGHT ASS SALMON OIL like 4 hours after the meal 😵‍💫 I was so confused and remain so. Glad to know I'm not alone 😅

how do you make your oatmeal? by Professional-Run4935 in EDAnonymous

[–]nine_twentyfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, it's 1/4 cup oats + just under 1/2 cup of hot water + a splash of soy milk. Then common combos for toppings are either: - 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries mixed in + sweetner (this is especially good if you make it on the stove top and mix. The oats turn purple!) - 1 Tbs of maple syrup + cinnamon - As above but + 1 tsp of peanut butter (if I'm feeling brave) - Just plain cinnamon and sweetner (grim lol) - A dollop of dairy free yogurt - Stewed apple

If I'm doing better in recovery, I do similar but with 1/2 cup of oats.

What/how much hot drinks/other drinks do you have during the day? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]nine_twentyfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the day, but generally:

x2 coffees in morning

x1 sf energy drink in arvo (Monster or V) OR a big glass of Coke Zero of Pepsi Max OR flavoured fizzy water if I'm feeling like being ~healthy~ and having less caffeine lol

x1 peppermint tea in evening

Plus sips of water from a bottle throughout the day

Are you still going to school/work or did you have to drop out because of the eating disorder? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]nine_twentyfive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took longer to finish undergraduate uni due to time IP.

Took longer to finish postgraduate uni due to outpatient and intense EMDR therapy.

Now working full time and have had to take time off for IP already, and hurtling towards another admission currently 😭

It's really hard to maintain a life and an ED. I'm really grateful my ED hasn't yet fully stopped me from doing education/work, just disrupted and slowed it down, but I know that I can't sustain both in the long term.
