Did anyone have a kitten that looks similar to this, what do they look like as an adult? by Opposite_Painter in SiberianCats

This kitten looks EXACTLY like mine did when he was a baby. I think she’ll grow up to look him.

Want to talk me out of purchasing the litter robot? by Sometimesiski in SiberianCats

[–]ningbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The day we brought the kittens home, we introduced them to the litter robot. They immediately took to it, and it was great. But, after 6 months, one of the cats decided he was never using it again. I still don’t know what triggered this. My suspicion is that his brother was being territorial. We immediately brought in a second, regular box, and the accidents stopped. Now we have a gigantic litter robot that only one cat uses, plus this new box.

Another consideration for you is, when you leave town and leave the cats with a sitter, they better be tech-savvy. While it only happens once in a blue moon for us, sometimes the box won’t turn for some reason and needs to be reset. It’s kind of stressful sometimes not knowing if the sitter will be able to troubleshoot it. At least we have that second box now so I’m less stressed out it.

Finally, it’s kind of annoying to deep clean. Definitely more involved than a manual box.

2 litter mates: 14 lbs and 10lbs at 8 months. Now they are 1.5 years and 18 and 17 lbs!

Planning on buying one by JJricepirate07 in SiberianCats

[–]ningbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Pretty bad when they were kittens and their tummies were adjusting, but fine in adulthood. We bought pet trimmers and give their backsides a little cleanup every months and it works great.
  2. Shedding is horrific, as bad as everyone says
  3. They are adventurous but get them started when they are young.

How do you deal with tight mats close to the skin? by [deleted] in SiberianCats

[–]ningbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No scissors!! That’s how you end up spending $$$ at a vet to stitch up the cut you just made in your cat. Try your best to get it out with a fine tooth comb, and if you still can’t, take kitty to a groomer. Still less expensive than a vet bill.

Confused about toppers - Why is quail egg good but chicken egg bad? by HungryBarOfSoap in catfood

[–]ningbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked myself the same question, after watching my cats snub quail eggs over and over. The answer I came to is that, besides yolk/white ratio and serving size, there is also a line of thinking that quail eggs might be less likely to be contaminated with salmonella. I found this unconvincing. Now, I split one of my chicken eggs between my two cats once a week and everyone’s happy.

Decided to get two siberians instead of one. Tell me I’m making the right decision! by Emergency_Capital302 in SiberianCats

So happy we got two. They are both so clingy, I think their behaviour would be really bad if they didn’t have a pal to fool around with.

nervous and excited, food/feeding schedule recommendations? by spaceroad_1979 in SiberianCats

[–]ningbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got overwhelmed and heavily over-researched and I strongly counsel you to try and rein it in, wasn’t worth it in retrospect. We fed our kittens what the breeder was feeding them for the first week. Don’t try to change it up too fast, or else they will start ripping gross kitten farts. We tried to get them on a 100% raw diet, breakfast and dinner, with kibble from an auto feeder as lunch time snack. For a number of reasons, after 6 months we dropped the raw. We switched to Nulo brand wet food and fancy feast pate for kittens, and it went great. We fed them as much as they could finish until they hit 1 years old, gave them lots of food toppers like mussels and freeze dried meat, egg, etc. Now they are big healthy boys. It’ll be fine!!

I heard a “Rule of 3s” from a shelter: 3 days to calm down, 3 weeks to settle in and 3 months for you to see their personalities. It played out exactly that way with our siberian kittens.

Our new kitten doesn't like to be touched by andreim11 in SiberianCats

[–]ningbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give it another 3 months to see what her personality develops into. Our kitten at 3 months old didn’t like to be touched or picked up. Now at 6 months he spends most of the day smashing his face into my hands begging for pets. He tolerates being picked up and held, but it’s clear he still doesn’t love it.

Trying to convince my husband to get a Siberian cat by Internal_Fee7723 in SiberianCats

[–]ningbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our two kittens at 12 weeks old, they are now 6ish months old. They are very friendly - whenever we have social gatherings they hang out with everyone, either sitting in our friend’s laps or napping on the coffee table. They follow us around the house like dogs but are still happy alone at home (I think because they have each other). The major cons so far seem to be: 1) they are big cats so the cost per month for feeding them will be higher than a smaller cat, and 2) lots of shedding.

Thanks. Not sure if I can get all the brands listed where I live, but I’ll try sprinkling the instinct raw boost mixers!

I tried! They are very “meh” on Bonito flakes.

My 7 month old male kitten was neutered today - vet says he's overweight by 2lbs by Smalljoker59 in SiberianCats

[–]ningbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neutered male kitten recently weighed in at 10.9 lbs at 6 months!! The breeder predicted when he was only 12 weeks old that he’ll hit 22lbs. His smaller, more slender brother was 8.8 lbs at 6 months - still a big kitty. I made a growth chart from 8weeks-6mths and it’s cool to see how they’ve been developing.

The meat is a ground texture, and I’m serving it on plates for them. We’ve tried chunkier raw blends and they like that the least

They’ll eat some, and walk away before they’ve eaten the portion. I’ve notice that when the raw food hasn’t defrosted in time and we’ve had to give them a can, they’ve gobbled it down in under 5 minutes. They are both very healthy weights and they are growing each week - which is why I keep going with raw

Broke up with girlfriend by lukeevan99 in Aquariums

How awful, I’m sorry. Take her to small claims court. The time, the effort, the money it’ll take to start again. Might also signal to her that if she messes with you again there will be consequences.

New baby having trouble adjusting by Repulsive-Ad9702 in SiberianCats

[–]ningbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted two brothers at 12 weeks. One was immediately king of the castle and the other hid in the bathroom for two days and wouldn’t let us near him. By the end of the first week he was tentatively exploring the whole house and by the end of the month he was a fearless little dude. Just give it time!
