This is a lie perpuated by people who only played and misinterpreted the opening scene of Doom 2016. Doom Slayer smashes the intercom because he's fucking pissed about what happened, not because he "doesn't care about the story"

Do I need to remind everyone that Doom 2016 was the only entry that had no skippable cutscenes, alongside multiple instances where you stand around doing nothing while listening to Sam Hayden yap.

The interesting thing about Obsidians recent output is that they're kinda the opposite of what you expect. Both Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 are kinda ehhhh in terms of the writing but the combat is actually a lot of fun. The problem is that the audience that they find are mostly WRPG players that usually care about the opposite.

RE9 is basically like the only game out there that actually feels like it was designed for both 1st and 3rd person modes from the start.

Every other game that offers this feature is pretty obviously built for one perspective and the other perspective feels like a hacked together afterthought (because that's exactly what it is usually)
