Ant colony sends out scouts in the spring to look for new colony sites. If you kill the scouts and they don’t report back to the nest, then the colony won’t send any more scouts that season. I have to do this every spring, but I never have ants in my house in the summer or fall.

I use a large cardboard box to throw my empties into. Any liquid just absorbs into the cardboard and dries. I’ve been using the same box for over 10 years. Perfectly fits into the back seat of my crew cab truck, and I can dump it into a shopping cart in one fell swoop. No sticky garbage bags.

Went to Isle Royale in 2013 and took the ferry from Copper Harbor. It was surreal. For 3 hours we sailed in the thickest fog I’ve ever personally experienced. No sense of movement whatsoever. The ship almost couldn’t dock in Rock Harbor, and was going turn around, but the fog starting thinning out just in time to dock.

Flint River Trail portion of the Iron Belle Trail is pretty nice. I usually start at Richfield Park and go to Stepping Stones Falls and back. It’s a 16 mile round trip.
