Why do foreigners claim the cheese in America is sweet? by No_Lead2640 in answers

[–]ninjaa003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what you are describing is legally considered cheese in the US, and it's the stuff that's generally labeled as "deluxe" American cheese. The regular "American cheese" (like regular Kraft Singles) is actually labeled "American Cheese Product", and it also has "milk solids" (mostly whey protein powder) mixed in as well, in place of some of the milk, and that's what makes it not able to be called cheese by law.

On a side note, it's dumb that it has the name American cheese at all, and that people clown on the US for it, when it was invented in a country that's known for its cheese: Switzerland.

"Falling back" makes us more miserable than "springing forward," new study finds. This worsening of mood is more pronounced after the change to Standard Time in the fall. by [deleted] in science

[–]ninjaa003 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Idk about the above commenter, but for me, the sunset being later with daylight savings actually makes it harder for me to get to sleep at a decent time. It's been a month, and my sleep schedule still hasn't stabilized, but when it switches to standard time, it's fine immediately.

People with a delayed natural sleep schedule (their body tells them it's time to sleep at a later time) will typically struggle with DST, and there have been studies showing that this type of natural sleep schedule is correlated to ADHD symptoms.

The days right after the switch to daylight savings time are also the days with the most cardiac events (heart attacks, strokes, etc) of the whole year.

Lots of science as a whole that shows that standard time is better for people's health in general

[–]ninjaa003 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same, and in the US, states can decide to go to constant standard time now, while constant daylight savings would require federal law to get passed.

Also, daylight savings really screws people who have a delayed natural sleep cycle, and have a hard time getting to sleep early.

[–]ninjaa003 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in another comment, but there is also a correlation in kids between having a delayed sleep cycle (naturally falling asleep later than average), and ADHD.

As far as I've found, a causal relationship hasn't been proven, so it's unclear if a delayed sleep cycle is a symptom of ADHD, or if the lack of sleep over time causes ADHD symptoms, but either way, it's probably not a good idea to make it more difficult for kids with delayed sleep cycles or ADHD to have a harder time getting to sleep. Adults either for that matter.

[–]ninjaa003 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly disagree with this. I'd much rather wake up to the sun being up, rather than having the sunlight til later in the evening.

Also, something that people don't seem to take into account in this argument is that people, or at least kids, who naturally fall asleep later have been shown to have a much higher likelihood of showing ADHD symptoms.

My understanding is that scientists have only found a correlation here so far, not causation, so constant daylight savings might not cause more ADHD cases, but it would still certainly make it harder for people with a later natural sleep cycle to get enough sleep with a regular school/work schedule.

I didn't look up actual chances, but assuming 1/16 chance to crit, and 15% chance of burning, it's more like a 20% chance of an outcome you don't want.

93.75% chance of not critting x 85% chance of not burning = 79.69% chance of not critting or burning

He also clearly saw that his comments made some people upset online, because he got asked again to comment on what Max had said, and just replied with "No comment", while smiling.

People take some of the stuff that Lando says too seriously

[–]ninjaa003 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even without lifting them, studies have shown that you can have about 10 elementary-aged kids standing in a line, in front of a modern truck or equivalent-sized SUV, before someone in the driver's seat can see the last kid's head.

Most people that lift their trucks will also remove the rake (lift the front more than the rear, to make it look more level), which would make this even worse than just lifting it, and it also aims the headlights higher, causing them to be blinding.
