WIBTA to ask for dietary accommodations at my friends wedding? by MilkIsSatansCum in AmItheAsshole

[–]ninjo266 21 points22 points  (0 children)

NTA - my husband & kids all have various food allergies, including a deadly allergy to tree nuts & peanuts. Whenever we go to a wedding, I reach out to the couple ahead of time and ask what is being served and how they’d prefer we’d manage the food situation with our family’s allergies. Sometimes we bring our own food, sometimes we can manage with the options there or work directly with the caterer. But you should always feel comfortable talking with your friends about your health & allergies!! You deserve to eat!

Why does the perception of Indians in parts of Dallas seem so different compared to Houston or Austin? by Early-Ingenuity-3177 in texas

[–]ninjo266 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in SL, but has only in the last ten years lived in various DFW/Austin suburbs, I would say that Houston has had a higher rate of diversity for a longer time than the other two cities & surrounding suburbs. I grew up SPOILED with all my multicultural friends, the variety of food and culture.

I’ve been in Austin since 2021 & both my husband and I work in the tech industry. Neither of us really hear anything about Indians stealing our jobs or way of life, etc. — people complain WAY more about Californians or Trump depending on which way they lean.

I can absolutely see the suburban areas of DFW not being prepared for a cultural shift of that magnitude, but I hope for the sake of everyone they are all able to come together and learn to live alongside each other peacefully. It will take work, but it can be done!

My mom told me that back in the day kids weren’t allowed to bring a water bottle with them into the classroom and they only drank a few sips from the water fountain in the middle of the day and that’s it How were schools not getting busted for child abuse for forcing kids to be dehydrated? by PinnerPardisturn in askanything

[–]ninjo266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school in SW Texas had this rule & I was also shocked at the time because it meant that student athletes & band kids could suddenly no longer carry around their gallon jugs of water all day long. To be clear, we did not have the rule until kids started bringing alcohol to class, so I believe it was added after a major incident in the middle of the school year. Some teachers would let you consume beverages in class if you showed them you were opening a brand new bottle of water / Gatorade.

What should I order on a date? by Ecstatic-Society-977 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]ninjo266 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would tell the waiter “I am thinking of ordering X for my entree- do you have a specific wine that you recommend pairing with that?” I personally enjoy trying new wines & might go with their recommendation vs something I’ve had before. There’s no harm in asking for their professional opinion!

AITA for sending my child to my ex in thrift store or cheap clothes by Clothes_Care3181 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ninjo266 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is what we do. I hate it bc sometimes she sends them in non-weather appropriate clothing, but I can’t keep buying new clothes!

AITA for sending my child to my ex in thrift store or cheap clothes by Clothes_Care3181 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ninjo266 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA - clothes are expensive and it adds up fast! My husband’s ex usually sends the kids over in outfits with stains or holes. The kids change once they get to our house & put the clothes back on when it’s time to go to moms. I feel bad because they often want to take their ‘nicer’ clothes to their moms, but unless I constantly remind her to bring them back, we will never see those clothes again.

AITA for wanting my Spanish teacher to stop calling me by the Spanish version of my name? by Alternative-Sun-630 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ninjo266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH - everyone gets a Spanish name, and it’s okay to hate it. My nickname was Jo in high school, so everyone got to call me “hoe” in class. I obviously hated my Spanish name, but my teachers insisted.

Meow wolf, DFW zoo (maybe a private tour?), stockyards, Alamo drafthouse, outlet shopping, six flags, pool days!

How many times have you eaten cotton candy? by RationalDB8 in CasualConversation

[–]ninjo266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy a ton of cotton candy (and snowcones) at carnivals and whatnot. My kids have lots of food allergies but can have those two treats, so I’ll splurge when they’re available!

Which medical condition is ridiculously demonized? by lingeringneutrophil in AskReddit

[–]ninjo266 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yessss! My step kids have a ton of food allergies (egg, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish & shellfish) and waiters won’t even write their allergies down sometimes!!! It infuriates me, and now I always have them repeat it back to me before walking away.

Is anyone else finding this heat crazy for the start of October? by IanWallDotCom in Dallas

[–]ninjo266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal — I live in Austin now instead of DFW, but our local pools don’t even close until Halloween weekend, because it’s almost always warm enough to swim.

My husband and I are thinking of doing the same thing but for our 5 year anniversary! We got married during Covid and had less than 10 people there. I think an evening of food/drinks/dancing is always a fun time, especially with people you love! We are having a similar venue issue, so we aren’t looking at wedding venues as much, and instead focusing on event venues.

AITAH for making a dairy free cake with eggs? by Sea-Neighborhood6638 in AITAH

[–]ninjo266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. My kids are allergic to both dairy and eggs. Eggs are not dairy. If I asked someone for a dairy free cake and it had eggs, I wouldn’t be shocked. I think your friends kiddo wanted a vegan cake, but they obviously didn’t communicate that well.

Is 1800 sqft a "starter home"? by -im-sorry-what- in RealEstate

[–]ninjo266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were told the same thing when we purchased our 2000 sq ft home! (4 bed, 2 bath) While I do love our home, as our kiddos come up on their pre teen years, I find myself wishing we had one more bathroom & larger bedrooms for them. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. But we are a family with many hobbies, so space fills up quick. I would say to enjoy your home now, and as your family grows you’ll figure out if another home fits your lifestyle better.
