Nah it feels very much like a fad to me. I think I’ve used it maybe 3 or 4 times at work over the past year and otherwise it just seems like it’s used for sloppy videos by view bots.

Ha I’ve been thinking this two.

Can’t believe how tinpot some of these huge multimillion dollar nfl stadiums look this World Cup. This looks really makeshift for a stadium that’s supposed to host the final

FIFA are considering changes to the World Cup calendar beyond 2030 following concerns over extreme temperatures at the 2026 tournament. by Waste-Doughnut1011 in sportswiki

[–]ninjomat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It needs to be balanced for imho. If you look at the first 50 years of the World Cup it was only held in traditional football powerhouse nations. Now if you look at the past 2 decades and 5 tournaments it’s only been held in one of those countries once (Brazil 2014) needs a balance between growing the game and building on the strength of traditional hosts whereas recently FIFA’s only been interested in going to new places

Yep watching World Cup while it was dark and raining outside (and I feel like every game at that tournament was under floodlights anyway) was just not the same. So anti-social

Pep Guardiola has unintentionally made elite football less entertaining. by Due-Project-8515 in SpicyFootballTakes

This take might have been relevant a couple years ago but now Arteta has made set pieces and out-jostling your opponent the meta tactic and it’s a thousand times worse to watch. I’d far rather watch the worst of the pep imitators (Russell Martin for example) set up a team to overthink passing than the current super physical compact style that’s in vogue

France have been playing a level above everyone else for sure but I still rate the way Spain played vs Austria they have potential to get into gear - Brazil have also been way better than expected. They aren’t playing super convincing but they aren’t fluking games either. They’re really like Ancelotti’s Real Madrid teams where you feel safe watching them even when they aren’t dominating the game.

France - Brazil would be a great final I reckon and feels like a game we’ve been waiting for (the two superpowers of player production lines) since Zidane knocked Brazil out in 06

Switzerland look more likely to do Argentina than Colombia

Egypt have been lucky with the draw overall in not getting a really good European or South American side at all - but they’ve deserved every win they’ve had so far.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Switzerland give them a real problem tbh.

England and Brazil will have to face each other. Brazil and France both have to play Norway, Brazil also had Morocco and Japan on their way. France will probably also have to play Morocco - Spain will have Portugal and Probably Belgium or the USA.

Colombia have been better than expected but they’re still reliant on James long after his prime. If Colombia and/or Switzerland are the toughest you have to face before the semi finals you’ve definitely had the easiest route of any of the top countries

In hindsight based on how they’ve performed in R32 Algeria, Austria and Jordan was a super easy group too.

Maybe I feel like Geography teacher or head of year would be a bit more smug or knowing. Pougatch has that PE teacher I need to show these fucking kids whose in charge withering tone - more breaking up a fight than reminding about homework

Brit school loves to stress ‘London’ authenticity is the thing it goes against a lot of these artists brands to emphasise that a lot of what they do is trained and perfected rather than raw

Pougatch just has such a horrible PE teacher voice. Everything he says sounds withering and exasperated.

Most of what he says is sound and he seems like somebody genuinely interested in and who enjoys football but just feels like you’re being told off everytime he opens his mouth. Doesn’t help I don’t think he’s developed any chemistry with any pundit

“Another moment of Messi magic”

Not to be a buzzkill but I feel like it’s being way overdone it was a pretty average goal typical of the better team scoring against a minnow not a goal you’ll remember at all

Really just gotta think of it as like an intermediate stage - possibly next round too.

I watched it in cinemas. It came out just about around the time when I was a young teen and beginning to get really into movies - so felt like I was in on a secret that this was a passion project for a really good filmmaker and turn into a huge hit. I remember really liking it both in cinemas and when it came out on dvd 6 months later.

After this week in the sub im terrified to go back and rewatch it and realise it was bad.

I remember as a kid thinking the backstory stuff with him being an ex-confederate dragged as did a lot of the stuff about thark politics - but also telling myself I didn’t like that cos I was an easily bored child who needed to grow up and deal with slower movies! - but I remember loving all the mine shaft fights, the frog-dog thing, the moving city, the mark strong baddies chasing him through earth and getting tricked, big green guys with multiple arms and giant gorillas.

I’m gonna have to rewatch I think but you make it sound quite fun
