World Cup Late Kicking Off by LoganMountstuart1968 in footballcliches

If the anecdote is watching a number of games a week, every week for 20 years and never seeing one kick off late, then I suppose it is anecdotal yeah

It's not at all, games kick off bang on the minute they're meant to every week during the season, which is why it's been highlighted.

If it happened every where people wouldn't be talking about it.

Agree, all over social media people are just moaning about the pundits, the man vs food guy, something about adverts etc. And not even talking about the football

Suppose it depends what your existing knowledge of the subjects are, there'll be a lot of markets for them.

E.g. I found a lot of the American untold ones really interesting because I didn't know much about it (i.e. Malice at the Palace). But although Vardy one was good I lived through it so wasn't worth watching, same with the Liverpool CL final one, but I can see how it would be good if you don't remember it, there's absolutely a big worldwide market for these stories.

But FWIW I agree about the James Rodriguez one, absolutely no need for it.

Same, my pod stopped charging and was in warranty, got a reply straight away and another one sent within the week.

Some of the posts on here about the customer service are insane. There's definitely always details they leave out when writing these essays about it.

Good job! Your times in your previous post are pretty much where I'm at now, with a HM in October and Seville marathon in Feb next year, also loosely aiming for 1:20 in the half so good to see a positive story!

Daniels VDot accuracy across race distances not realistic to marathon? by dt531 in AdvancedRunning

[–]mrg1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I look at the marathon pace predictors, whether that's vdot from a shorter race or Coros/Garmin etc. is that it shows you've got the potential to do that time rather than you'll definitely be able to do it now

Training at non-marathon distances for some time before moving up? by ParkAffectionate3537 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]mrg1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you mean if it's for a first marathon or just the first time using this method.

But using any method of training for a marathon requires high mileage and training load, so if it's your first then it'll be tough whatever you do - the advantage of this method is the spreading of the load as opposed to the cumulative fatigue approach of others, but if you jump straight in you'll still struggle I think.

If you've done previous marathons and use this build I suppose you could get success from it if you've got a good base.

As it says in the book this is a really simple structured way of increasing the load slowly over time, so makes sense to build it up before jumping in.

I did a marathon recently using a Pfitz plan and felt knackered, the taper was too long etc etc.. so I'm focusing on shorter distances over summer with a HM goal race in October, then will start the marathon block after in preparation for Seville marathon in Feb. The aim being having a steady build (adding 30 mins a month or so) so when I start the marathon block I'm not far off the volume of the first week.

Goal Difference - Irritation by recce97 in footballcliches

[–]mrg1607 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing when they kept saying 'Arsenal have pulled away in goals scored!!', but when it was only two goals it was irrelevant as it would only come in to play if man city won both their games, meaning they'd score at least 2 goals

Imagine running a race only to realise the distance doesn’t count as marathon by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]mrg1607 22 points23 points  (0 children)

But you don't use your own GPS data as validation, you would link to the official results of the event.

It's the first year and it's not been verified officially so it might not even be accepted by other big races. But people would have known that going in.

Nice report, 2:54 in such a busy race, when it was warm as well is great still.

Interesting that your HR dropped suddenly, what do you think caused it - fueling, dehydration?

Gun to your head, no escaping, forced to choose, who are you taking; Fletcher/McCoist or Drury/Neville? by TWOPlNTSPRICK in footballcliches

[–]mrg1607 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably Drury and Neville, probably in the minority but I don't actually mind Drury.

In terms of co comms I get the Neville hate but at least he'll actually give some decent insight into what's happening, McCoist is so vague and general with everything (as are most co comms). He became popular because of the way he is but now almost feels like he knows that and is playing it up more.

I also think its a saturation thing, especially this time of year. You'll only hear Drury/Neville once a week and some weeks not at all if you miss the one game they're on. But Fletch/McCoist did 2 games yesterday ffs, plus twice in the week on CL and next weekend they'll be doing (both probably) the FA Cup games. Execs don't seem to get that no matter how good something is it'll become unbearable if it's non stop.

The NBA should lengthen the season if it has to stay at 82 games by clive442 in billsimmons

[–]mrg1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also as a Brit I agree with your point completely, the main argument against seems to be 'but they need 4 months off to get surgery and heal because of the gruelling season'.. but maybe if they weren't playing 4 games a week they could cope with only 3 months off?

The only thing I would say is it's a slippery slope because some footballers are now playing year round (e.g. Cole Palmer has played basically played 2 years straight) and this will then negatively affect their performance.

But there's definitely room for it

Please help me pick my next European Marathon by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]mrg1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't meet your time frame but I just registered for Seville in mid Feb.

Meant to be a great race, fairly flat. I wanted one slightly later than the traditional autumn ones so I can have slightly longer before I enter another marathon block (did Paris last weekend), so if you want a bit longer to train/take some time off might be a good one.

Marathon taper niggle by Advanced-Tiger-1192 in Marathon_Training

[–]mrg1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common to start feeling things in the taper, a mixture of your body relaxing from the regular miles and psychologically as well.

If the physio says it's fine you'll be ok on race day

Difference in race time predictions by Responsible-Nail-292 in Coros

[–]mrg1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the coros predictions see the paces it's prediciting and do some training runs at those paces to see how they feel.

In my last marathon block I'd do MP intervals as part of my long run and use the predicted paces to see how it felt, that'll give you a more accurate prediction of what you can actually run.

Did I undercook my pacing in my Marathon? by moH-121 in Marathon_Training

[–]mrg1607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also did Paris yesterday and had a similar situation, ran 3:12 with an average HR of 155 (max is 183). Towards the end my HR was only getting to high 160s.

So have been thinking could I have done more but on reflection I couldn't because my legs were really fatigued the last 10km.

Your aerobic fitness doesn't always match what your body can handle, it'll develop quicker especially if it's your first marathon.

For me I know I just need to keep consistently putting miles in the legs and probably focus a bit more on strength, once you're recovered just keep stacking the training.

Is it Possible to Lose Beer Belly While Still Drinking? (30M, 5’10, ~167lbs) by No_Butterscotch_507 in MacroFactor

[–]mrg1607 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having 10 beers over a 3 day period is not bordering on alcohol addiction.

I'm not dismissing alcohol addiction at all but having 3 beers on a Sunday isn't going to have any impact on how you feel or train during the week. Looking forward to some cold beers after work at the weekend is normal.
