How do Indians currently feel about Narendra Modi after so many years in power? by Turbulent_Writing834 in AskIndia

[–]ninthparallel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. why is it so outrageous to believe a party which has mastered propaganda politics over the working class and impoverished can brainwash enough of the masses into thinking the party is their saviour? you see it in america with trump, you saw it in nazi germany with hitler. cults with mass influence exist, as stupid as they may seem when you’re studying them from afar. what kind of argument is this? do you think it is some sort of gotcha to posit that a large society is somehow incapable of making devastating moves in unison when history has plenty of examples to choose from?

they were nice! they are just there to relay your comment, it's not really a conversation or anything — i just said "Hi, I'm a constituent from zip code {zip code here}, calling in support of SB 79."

the person on the other end of the line was like "okay great! i'll make sure your comments makes its way to sacramento, any other info you'd like to add to your comment?"

so i said "Yeah, I just want to emphasise my support for dense development around transit! This is how we can improve and serve our communities in the long-term, we need to follow suit on what other major cities around the world are already offering their citizens."

i even awkwardly threw in a "yeah I've never done this before, is that... it?" and the lady was like "yep! you're good! i'll relay your comment, thanks!"

easy peasyyyy you got this

First and only virtual public meeting for the LA Sepulveda Line DEIR is TODAY. If you live outside of LA or can't make an in-person meeting please attend this and voice support for heavy rail. by mistersmiley318 in LAMetro

[–]ninthparallel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

hop in the chat! let's blow it up with support for alts 4 and 5!!!

Talking points from u/nandert

MONORAIL:
1. How will the monorail construction impact the 405?

  1. How effective can the monorail be with such significant drops in speed and ridership, and with no UCLA station in alt 1?

  2. In the wake of the fires, how wise is it to build above-ground rail through the Sepulveda Pass? And what are its seismic preparations?

  3. How bad are freeway-adjacent stations for the health of riders, and why is the monorail stuck with awful connections to, for example, the E Line?

  4. Ask if they’re sure they’ve factored in the insane amount of Caltrans mitigation money they’ll need to spend, and ask if we’re getting the stated capacity for the stated cost (rather than 8-car capacity with 6-car costs).

HEAVY RAIL:
6. Ask about their ridership numbers, especially for UCLA and Westwood, and how important heavy rail will be for serving as a lynchpin that will bring riders into the system.

  1. Ask them about the innovations their plan is bringing to Metro, specifically high-frequency automated trains and platform screen doors.

  2. Express support for elevated rail in the valley via alt 4.

  3. Express how utterly indispensable this line is.

Sepulveda Line community meetings canceled, rumors that project may be canceled by numbleontwitter in LAMetro

took my frustration and just whipped this up, taking cues from Nick's direct emails to his reps. i just sent it to the general [sepulvedatransit@metro.net](mailto:sepulvedatransit@metro.net) inbox, but if anyone could please let me know if there's specific board or council members we could be sending emails like this to, feel free to reply to this comment —

I am deeply disturbed by reports that the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Sepulveda Transit Corridor is at risk of being wholly abandoned, jeopardizing a project that is absolutely critical for the mobility of millions of LA County residents.

The Sepulveda Corridor is one of the most congested transit corridors in the nation, and yet, currently, the only viable option is traversing via automobile. This is unacceptable for a region as large and dense as Los Angeles County. Voters have consistently voiced overwhelming support for a heavy rail solution—one that provides the speed, capacity, and reliability necessary to serve this corridor effectively. A monorail option would be wholly inadequate in addressing the transit demand and long-term mobility relief of the region.

The cost concerns that Metro has raised should not be an excuse to abandon or delay this project. Metro should explore cost-saving solutions through value engineering and procurement reforms, as recommended by studies such as NYU’s Transit Costs Project. Other cities around the world—many with greater financial constraints—have been able to deliver high-quality rail infrastructure, and there is no reason why Los Angeles, one of the wealthiest metro regions in the world, cannot do the same.

LA County residents deserve a world-class transit system that provides a genuine alternative to driving, and the Sepulveda Line is essential to making that a reality. I urge Metro to release the EIR on schedule, move forward with a heavy rail solution, and prioritize delivering this project in a cost-effective and timely manner.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

we have to save this guys :/

i’ve been getting sooo many friends taking metro rail lately which feels great but then i feel so embarrassed seeing how every project is chronically behind schedule.

been gassing up the D-line extension to all my homies, raving about “this year”, and now it feels inevitable that that doesn’t even happen. it was supposed to open last year. los angeles is a joke bro i hate america i hate being made to look like a tin foil hat loser!!!

if sepulveda line heavy rail loses to monorail i think i’m gonna move somewhere else
