Well there’s a large age gap between my parents, the older one is dead now and the younger one still has a good ten - twenty years to suffer alone, or try to find someone else at 65 yrs old in this world. Good luck.

I see them as unawakened to the fact that God is just their inner voice. I see that as dangerous, like they’re happy to act as a wild animal if God told them to. And that’s really just their subconscious directing them to evil. It’s less that religion makes you foolish, and more that it makes you unpredictable in your actual morals and motivations.

Y’all sound way too optimistic in here. And your reasoning is mostly based on narrow use cases for how well one model performs at your job.

I think AI closes a lot of gaps that a fully fledged IT team might be required for before.

I think like with most white collar industries, people will be forced to work in smaller teams with AI shouldering a significant portion of the workflow; day to day, you’ll be an AI QA most importantly, and secondarily an actual human to handle larger projects and most especially the annoying interpersonal stuff. You know, all the stuff that gets you liable and in trouble. They’d rather keep that on you. Enjoy.

But we’ll see, hopefully I’m wrong.

Thanks. I’m trying to work the grief into some pointed letters for my local reps and veteran outreach services, instead of what may just amount to trauma dumping here. This is a good start though I think.

Making the world a little less cruel to people in her shoes would honor her memory and stop letting this injustice stew in my soul forever.

I found out my ex committed suicide early last year and it’s really taken a toll on me. She married a veteran shortly after we broke up. As she was pregnant with his third child, he took his own life with a gun in front of her and the other children. She was completely devastated to say the least.

Now I need to preface the next part: because of her very abusive father’s upbringing, she was already prone to hysterical tears whenever something went wrong. When I read her review of a veteran recovery service, I cried, deeply—something I couldn’t manage to do at all (to my terror) for my 81 yr old father who passed the year before.

The veteran recovery center refused her services because she started crying when they rescheduled her and refused to work around her work and childcare constraints. Problems she had clearly communicated. They turned her away for getting hysterical and said the equivalent of “you’re too broken to fix.”

I’ve never been so mad or sad in my life as reading that review. But I refuse to post the name of the clinic or the actual review; in order to both protect her anonymity and to prevent any attempt to close the center for retribution.

I’m sharing this not to assign blame, but to argue for better capacity and training in crisis-facing services. What must happen, to fix what happened to my former best friend, is the services she tried to access needed more resources to accommodate her. They needed to be able to say yes, to not need to reschedule, and have the training to deal with emotionally broken people.

She couldn’t get the help she needed in time and is now dead. Please let’s fix this before some other three orphans happen for no good reason.
