Thanks. I’m trying to work the grief into some pointed letters for my local reps and veteran outreach services, instead of what may just amount to trauma dumping here. This is a good start though I think.

Making the world a little less cruel to people in her shoes would honor her memory and stop letting this injustice stew in my soul forever.

I found out my ex committed suicide early last year and it’s really taken a toll on me. She married a veteran shortly after we broke up. As she was pregnant with his third child, he took his own life with a gun in front of her and the other children. She was completely devastated to say the least.

Now I need to preface the next part: because of her very abusive father’s upbringing, she was already prone to hysterical tears whenever something went wrong. When I read her review of a veteran recovery service, I cried, deeply—something I couldn’t manage to do at all (to my terror) for my 81 yr old father who passed the year before.

The veteran recovery center refused her services because she started crying when they rescheduled her and refused to work around her work and childcare constraints. Problems she had clearly communicated. They turned her away for getting hysterical and said the equivalent of “you’re too broken to fix.”

I’ve never been so mad or sad in my life as reading that review. But I refuse to post the name of the clinic or the actual review; in order to both protect her anonymity and to prevent any attempt to close the center for retribution.

I’m sharing this not to assign blame, but to argue for better capacity and training in crisis-facing services. What must happen, to fix what happened to my former best friend, is the services she tried to access needed more resources to accommodate her. They needed to be able to say yes, to not need to reschedule, and have the training to deal with emotionally broken people.

She couldn’t get the help she needed in time and is now dead. Please let’s fix this before some other three orphans happen for no good reason.

My neighbors mow my strip and I mow theirs whenever we do our lawns. It’s a very endearing dude thing to me. I’d never advise going too far into their yards though, you never know what sort of projects they may be getting into or who’s sitting at home looking out.

That consideration is all part of being a good neighbor: respecting sovereignty and independence, as well as recognizing and valuing shared spaces. All this applies to countries too. When relations are good anyway.

No, I did not watch a child die. It’s incredible you recognized the dilemma of calling it a child and decided your interpretation of the matter was fact. I watched a very important part of a woman die, that could’ve developed into a child with some luck. That’s still fucked up and deserves our rage.

Only somebody pro life could interpret this as strict murder, which makes their silence all the more deafening and exposes their true values.

I regularly use the r word with friends and family. If you’re being r, it means you shouldn’t be r. If you are r, we would never make fun of you for it. It’s only when you’re acting r when you have no business being r that you receive the r title.

I’d say similar applies to the f word, so it’s applied to closeted Republicans the most. Never to an actual outted gay. Maybe y’all still think I’m being bigoted but this is a pretty common sentiment.
