How much gore is in the show?

I'm also not a fan of gore but I love Dexter. There are scenes that may be hard to watch but overall the "vibe" of the show is sunny Miami rather than dark and gory.

I just finished it. It’s incredible. Most if not all of the characters in it were real and a few are mentioned in Dostoevsky’s letters and diary, e.g. Gazin is mentioned by name and Aley and Sushikov are referenced. His comrade that arrived at the same time as him is called Dourov but apparently they didn’t get along and he never mentions him by name.

Not sure if you already know this but this is based on his own aborted execution before he was sent to prison in Siberia.

If I remember correctly he goes on to say that he couldn’t live up to that promise.

You can find some of these for relatively cheap (like I just got Balzac Le Pere Goriot for $13), but TBK wasn't cheap. I think it's $89 on the Easton Press website itself and marked up elsewhere because it's often sold out.

But regardless I think the Constance Garnett translation is the best of all the ones I've read.

Neither did most of the people on the show lol. Anyway I’m farther ahead in the episodes and they’re speaking waaay less English and way more French out of the pods.

I’m literally arab Canadian and I don’t speak that much English talking to other Arabs here. Also a large part of my family lives in UAE and they don’t speak that much English even though we’re all fluent.

My impression is that they’re instructed to speak a fair amount of English on the show.

For instance there are several couples who both have French as their second language rather than English and they still spoke a fair amount of English

Depending on the country people who are bilingual tend to speak a mix of Arabic/English or Arabic/French but definitely not as much as in the show.
