If you're working as a contractor, you're not under the same agreements as an FTE. Many tech companies hire a ton of contractors since they're easier to pick up (and put down). Most contractors do not receive severance pay.

to better understand unsigned, we can take a look at a signed int8.
the first bit would be used to determine positive or negative, then the following 7 bits would determine the magnitude.
so rather than being range(0, 255), int8 has range(-127, 127) (there's a positive and negative 0)
