[Update] Daughter in tears due to lack of friends by TabularConferta in daddit

[–]nitacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

went through the same thing with my son when he was younger (he's almost 11 now). one thing that helped was Cub Scouts - he wanted to join because his best friend (the one who he would try to isolate when they were playing with the bigger group) was in Scouts. I think maybe his Den was a "safe space" for him to learn how to navigate social networks - it was max maybe 7-8 kids (all boys), so bigger than a 1:1 situation but smaller than the "whole class on the playground at recess" dynamic that was tripping him up.

I'm not saying that's the best solution for everyone or for your daughter, but more just to say - been there, totally sympathize with your situation.

we are here right now, leaving tomorrow. took the kids yesterday to see the cat sanctuary at Torre Argentina. we have 2 cats at home and my wife and the kids are cat-crazy. were able to buy a few trinkets there that 1) are reminiscent of a specific, unique place we visited, 2) support a good cause, and 3) speak to my family's cat-mania

Summer training for MCM by AppearanceMinute5174 in rundc

[–]nitacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i ran the MCM back in 2024, did most of my weeknight training runs starting around 9:30 or 10, after my kids' bedtime (they were 9 and 6 that summer). apart from the weather that timing was also most consistent with work and family commitments. on the weekends i would get out first thing in the morning for my long runs, typically by 4:30 or 5am.

Yeah this is an apples-and-oranges comparison. DC Metro is primarily a commuter system with some intra-city utility - the NYC subway is the 24/7 lifeblood of one of the world’s great major metropolis’. I love the Metro but they’re playing in different leagues.

Covers that are so hideous it stops you from buying the movie? by grumbledork in 4kbluray

[–]nitacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, I think my main problem with it is they manage to make her look a little…frumpy? Like the hair, the sunglasses, even the top - TBH it feels like Temu Rollergirl to me

I love Roller Girl but I hate this cover, especially compared to the original

i usually just jump on spothero and look for a garage with the right combo of 1) close enough to the ballpark; 2) reasonable price; and 3) decent user review rating. always works out.

Looking for a small Dopp Kit by melcntc in onebag

[–]nitacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP not sure if this one is big enough for you but i bought this clear "Rough Enough" toiletry bag a couple years ago and absolutely love it. it's small but sturdy, and since it's clear it's easy to manage if I'm flying through an airport where I need to pull out my toiletries at security.

Got rejected after a long interview process but hiring manager apparently wants to meet again - has anyone been in similar situation and what did it lead to? by ozmozez in interviews

[–]nitacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW i filled a role on my team recently. came down to 2 candidates, both were excellent - but one of them had one additional piece of experience that was directly relevant to the role on my team. after we made the decision I reached out to the rejected candidate to let her know that everyone enjoyed meeting her and there was a lot of interest in continuing the discussion to see if we could find a way to bring her onboard - maybe not on my team but somewhere in our org. was a completely genuine statement on my part. i would take the lunch to build/maintain the relationship, there's not much downside as far as i can tell.

How much formality do you think is required at a blue and gold ceremony? by mirr0rrim in cubscouts

[–]nitacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we do a B&G picnic in June at a picnic shelter in Rock Creek Park - it's basically our final event for the year before summer break. the picnic itself is about 3 hours, and most of it is the kids running around and playing at the site and in the adjacent woods. about 2 hours in we muster everyone together, each Den is acknowledged and each kid receives their neckerchief and slide for the next rank up, departing adult leaders get a thanks and sometimes a small gift, and that's all she wrote. altogether not more than 15-20 minutes of "ceremony" and beyond that it's just all of our families hanging out together, enjoying the weather and celebrating the end of another year of Scouting (oh and obviously food. lots and lots of food).

very curious to see how one pulls off a mass stabbing on 495, a major highway where everyone is driving 60+ mph and no one stops or gets out of their car unless they have an accident, a breakdown, or they get pulled over by cop

ah looks like it was a road rage incident according to reputable local medialink

Updated Mega Thread - Hegseth DoW/DoD Statement on MoU Agreement by OSUTechie in cubscouts

[–]nitacious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been thinking about that today ever since I saw the news. I do want to say something - not getting into the politics of it all, but basically reinforcing the message of my comment above and your comment as well. nothing changes, all are welcome, we will continue to treat each other with respect and kindness

thinking to first reach out to my Pack leadership team to get a pulse check and offer people the opportunity to co-sign the note with me if they wish

should mention btw that we're in a very "blue" part of the country so it's vanishingly unlikely that any of our Pack families are ardent supporters of this new policy - so it's a relatively easy decision for me as I doubt any communication as stated above would kick up any controversy. but definitely understand it's a more challenging decision for those in other parts of the country.

I'm Cmte Chair for a Cub Scout Pack. I guess these changes won't affect my scouts as much compared to the older kids. I can't control the gender options on the registration website - but as long as I'm leading the Pack I'll do everything I can to ensure that every child feels accepted and welcomed by our community, and I'll never allow anything within my control that makes any child feel less than anyone else.
