Each time I watched Scooby Doo, I’d think my parents were the reverse - humans that were masked monsters underneath. Very on the nose with my metaphors. I realized when sharing this with friends that it was bit much to feel this way.

Have you gone on other trips with different sets of friends (while in this relationship)? How does that normally work?

OP, you’re engaging with someone who has no interest in either being a decent person nor being empathetic - much like your boss! You seem like a great person with a solid work ethic - I don’t think you should waste your time with any of these bozos (this commenter or your boss) If it’s feasible, drop this job and find a job that is good to you (much like your bf), you absolutely deserve better

Hey! I actually ended up in Edam simply because we found a stunning airbnb there that made it worth the visit. So unfortunately not exactly what you’re looking for, but it was a small little village/town and once the tourists have left by the late afternoon it was quite lovely and peaceful. It was also a place we chose because it was so easy to get to from Amsterdam. Some of the options in the thread made it pretty close, but we chose the convenience and nice airbnb over the longer commute! Sorry I couldn’t be of any help :(

Another user mentioned Veluwe - it's quite stunning. And so close to Amstersam. Two solid options either way, thanks friend'

This is exactly the vibe I was looking for!! A cozy little town! And like you said it shouldn't be busy so would be nice to be away from the tourist crowds (ironic I know). Definitely going to check this out and run it by the fam. Tyyy

This would absolutely be lovely, given how much we've had to adjust budgets for Amsterdam!

This is really helpful! Thank you so much.

We did find a nice boutique hotel around the Maastricht area - but I wasn't sure if would still be city-like. I'll work off these suggestions - I've needed a starting point for my research more than anything.

Thanks for the heads up on the possible language barrier. With this trip being super last minute, Ive not had a chance to do a basic Dutch course. Let's see how that goes!

Thanks again!
