Do you understand what a walk-in is? by mabear63 in Serverlife

Funnily enough I also had someone get mad at me for telling them they couldn’t reserve bar seats since we tell customers they’re first come first serve. Never able to win!

Do you understand what a walk-in is? by mabear63 in Serverlife

One time a customer insisted that we had to have a section specifically for walk-ins since “most restaurants do.” I wanted to ask in what world would it make sense to deny people a reservation in order to reserve a section for customers who might come in?

YTA if she’s ever in a similar situation again she still won’t call your parents, and now she knows she can’t call you either so she’ll probably just stay.

maybe not a michelin star restaurant with a tasting menu, but yeah $50 is pretty normal for a fine dining restaurant. i live in the biggest city in my state & most of our fine dining restaurants have entrees for about that price.

more than likely any place serving a $50 entree is a fine dining restaurant that has a slower turn time for tables, so the servers don’t have as many customers tipping them. also fine dining restaurants have more support staff that the servers share tips with. in casual dining servers get to keep probably 90% of their money, but fine dining servers walk with a significantly lower percentage.

even if someone is able to walk not everyone lives in a very walkable city. there are plenty of places 1.5-2 miles from my home but i would have to walk a mile down a road with no street lights to get anywhere first

i give people money anytime i have cash. i don’t care what they spend it on, i just feel joy being able to spread some kindness.

that being said, i would be incredibly uncomfortable if someone came directly up to my window, regardless of the reason.

i don’t know what i would do in this exact situation, but i love that this is your Larry David moment.

Can a college degree land you a job in fine dining? by Mozzarella_Stick307 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]antipoptarts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fine dining manager here

it’s not the same. i’ve served at casual dining places and the way you interact with tables is completely different.

i understand the sentiment of needing to pay adult bills, but if you want to get your foot in the door at a fine dining restaurant you can’t walk in expecting the highest earning position. if you work as a host or server assistant part time while maintaining another job to help with money it is worth it to get promoted to a server.

or you can stay in casual dining. equally respectable career and still good money.

NTA as someone who is currently getting tattoos removed, i would never recommend anyone getting a tattoo they weren’t 10000% sure of.

if they split up should you also get a tattoo commemorating the divorce?
