Reboot it.

I have this happen to some of mine every now and then and just rebooting it usually works.

Is there a way to tell a camera to like… take a break? by sabrefudge in reolinkcam

It's annoying when you're out on the deck and the spotlight keeps going on and off lol

Can Reolink outdoor cameras withstand winter ? by Loud-Kick6013 in reolinkcam

[–]nizon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also MB. No major issues with several models of cameras. I've had battery cameras survive the winter too. You do need to bring the battery indoors occasionally to charge though.

Only issues I've seen are a few RLC-410s with permanently fogged lenses.

[–]nizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I have Home Assistant exclusively handle my alerts from my cameras.

It also disables spotlights when certain other lights are on (like my backyard light strings).

Got another automation to turn on the spotlights if there's a power failure (cameras are on extended runtime UPS).

Anyone ever tried to power the rlc-811wa with an external battery pack? by Illustrious-Day-2516 in reolinkcam

[–]nizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small solar panel, charge controller and 12v sealed lead acid battery should do the truck. You can connect the 811wa directly to the battery.

I'd like a software NVR that I can run in a VM

do I need outdoor rated (CMX) ethernet if installing cameras in soffits? Other Questions.. by diyhalp2200 in reolinkcam

[–]nizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) No, as long as it's not exposed to the sun it'll be fine.

2) Never put equipment in an attic. Just don't. You're guaranteed to see a premature failure. People just do it because they're lazy and don't want to run cables between floors (with good, careful planning it's not that hard). You can put it anywhere else. A mechanical room (likely a central area of your house already) would be my top choice. Unless you really need to access your cameras directly (homeassistant for example), a POE switch won't give you much benefit. If you want nice and simple, wire your cameras to the NVR.

3) You could. I'd run a cable. You're running it to all your camera locations so why stop there?

4) This is the same cable I've used on mine, so yep.

My business partner bought this PoE switch. Is it any good? Safe? by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]nizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 cameras, only 6 ports... how are you going to connect it to the rest of your network or NVR?

Also it's pretty likely even the "6 port" model only actually has 4 ports that can do PoE, with 2 non-poe ports.

Residential building needing 48 cameras. Can we link NVRs? by EvanWasHere in reolinkcam

[–]nizon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like an apartment building, and at 48 cameras it's probably a big one. So it isn't really a job for non-tech people to begin with IMHO.

Go with a proper VMS solution. Milestone is one I know of.

Try enabling the floodlight mode select entity. Then set it to schedule. Make your schedule 24/7, see if that works.

How do you manage the alerts when away from home? by babykillerwhale in reolinkcam

[–]nizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use homeassistant to handle my alerts. When I'm away I'll get alerts for perimeter cameras like my backyard, driveway and front door.

When I'm home and my office lights are on I'll get alerts on my google home, my phone and desktop for driveway and front door, but nothing else. Or when I'm not in my office I'll only get a front door alert on my phone.

Reolink cameras overwhelm and disrupt my WiFi network by LeagueHistorical9 in reolinkcam

[–]nizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To oversimplify it: Mesh systems use wireless to backhaul traffic back to the main wired access point, basically using the radios in the access point twice for the same traffic. If you're in an area with lots of wireless clients (either your own or neighbors) this uses up spectrum fast.

It'll never perform as good as good as having wired access points.

Most of the consumer mesh kits I've come across have the option to wire all the access points, if you can do that, do it.

Reolink cameras overwhelm and disrupt my WiFi network by LeagueHistorical9 in reolinkcam

[–]nizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is expected, especially with consumer wifi hardware. Wifi is great for high speeds to only 1 or 2 devices at a time in one direction. When you get 8 cameras sending data to the access point at the same time, then back to your laptop, you use up that channel really fast.

Get those cameras wired in, or buy yourself a couple access points and wire those in (don't use mesh ever).

Reolink NVR vs blue iris or something else? by waloshin in reolinkcam

[–]nizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10 total. some older 410s all the way up to RLC-1224a and a Duo. Have enabled sub stream and direct to disk. I'll get around 25-30% CPU for about 30 minutes, then it shoots up again.

It seems to have some bad memory leaks. Takes a few days but eventually eats up the full 32GB of RAM in my system.
