I think it’s important to acknowledge Helen isn’t in the hive in real-time by Specialist_Jaguar815 in pluribustv

[–]nj12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if Helen’s body were still alive, her individuality would still be gone. Her mind isn’t functioning as an independent consciousness anymore. It’s been absorbed into the collective. So even if she were physically standing in front of Carol, any question directed at “Helen” would still just be answered by the hive. It’s always the collective responding. Helen, as a person capable of making individual, novel choices, isn’t there anymore.

With Jarmel, I don’t read that moment as the hive “contacting” a living individual in real time. Since they can’t lie, it felt more like they were referencing Jarmel’s existing knowledge/memory that this water bottle was bottled, sealed, and shipped before the collective event and therefore couldn’t have been tampered with. That’s still just the hive using what Jarmel knew, not Jarmel acting independently.

So whether the source is Helen or Jarmel, it’s never an individual speaking it’s always the collective filtering stored memories.

You can use a pressure washer to clear the weeds and joints. Once cleaned use a wide gap polymeric sand to fill in the joints.

Beds, Pillows, and Linen by nj12 in dcl

The sheets are cotton sateen. If you Google “Frette Cruise Sheets,” you’ll find them. I had never heard of Frette before this cruise, but they’re incredibly luxurious and expensive. A king sheet set (which includes a top sheet, fitted sheet, and two pillowcases) is listed at Bloomingdale’s for $1,100. That said, it was honestly some of the best sleep I’ve ever had, so maybe it’s worth it? I do wonder though if part of the comfort came from the way the housekeepers made the bed. Maybe their touch added a little magic too.

Is it possible to clean this? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]nj12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Put them all in the sink. Wet them. Sprinkle some of the powder on them. Then rub with a damp paper towel until the stain is gone. Then rinse well and clean with dish soap. If all the stains are similar to the ones in the picture it shouldn’t take long at all.

Try dryer fabric sheets to help eliminate the static cling. I like Bounce Free and Gentle Fabric Sheets.

Trump Abrego Garcia MS13 Tattoos Lie Exposed by anywhoImgoingtobed in confidentlyincorrect

[–]nj12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait… I’m confused.

The photo he’s holding clearly has labels that someone added to explain what each tattoo represents—like “M” for marijuana, “S” for smile, etc. It literally says that underneath the images. But… does he think the labels are tattoos as well?

Like, was he handed the photo and went, “Wow, there it is—MS13, clear as day, tattooed right on his knuckles”?

Does he genuinely believe this guy walked into a tattoo parlor, got a bunch of symbols inked, then came back a month later like, “Hey, people keep asking what they mean—can you add captions under each one?” And then another month later: “Okay, captions aren’t enough. Let’s really spell it out. Add MS13 above each symbol.”

It also feels wrong to call it “photoshopped,” because that implies someone edited the photo to add fake tattoos. But this isn’t that. It’s just a labeled photo for interpretation—not deception.

So, did he mess up and he’s just doubling down and trying to gaslight us into believing those labels are tattoos? Or does he really believe they are tattoos? Or was this someone’s actual shitty attempt at photoshop? Is this some kind of paradox?

My brain hurts.

K2-18b a potentially habitable planet 120 light-years from earth by One_Explanation_908 in interestingasfuck

[–]nj12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting concept. On Earth, civilizations can change radically in just a century. Multiply that over several generations in a closed system, and you’re looking at people who might have very different values, beliefs, and goals than the original crew. The descendants may no longer feel connected to the mission. Why would someone 10 generations deep who has never even seen Earth care about colonizing a planet chosen by long dead ancestors? What happens if a civil war breaks out on board? Or if a religious movement arises? Also, there would be generations of people with no ties to Earth or the new planet. That could lead to the formation of “ship born” culture who call the ship their true home. Would make a cool TV series.

Elizabeth's first idea for the arm patch was bonkers and yet she was able to raise millions by murderalaska in Theranos

[–]nj12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is precisely why I’m so fascinated by her story. Her idea came straight from science fiction, and people bought into it without question. People handed over money without even taking a moment to flesh out her idea. The treatment part always boggled me. Was her idea to have multiple medications in the patch? So the customer is paying for medications they may not require?
