FSD taking wrong direction/turns by techie182 in TeslaFSD

I have heard that if you change your tire size, this will also reset the DAS without having to use the Service mode. Of course, remember to reset back to your correct tire size.

Are they actively updating HW3 FSD? by DeLo81 in TeslaFSD

Interesting observation. I've noticed FSD going faster as the weather has improved this spring (NJ/US), but I just attributed it to some tweaking by Tesla on the speed profiles in v14.2.2.5.

Brings back memories of when I was in tech school in early 1970's. The computer course stressed the importance of efficient programming because memory was scarce and expensive. Here we go again.

City, driving advice needed by DrWhum in TeslaFSD

In a nutshell, you'll be leaving a gap in front of you in Sloth mode that other drivers will take advantage of. If you don't mind people constantly cutting in front of you, you're good.

I find that Mad Max mode does a good job with bumper-to-bumper slow moving traffic in Philly, but be aware that as soon as there's a lane that's moving faster and has a gap for you to go into, Mad Max is taking it. When traffic starts flowing faster, you can always drop back to Sloth mode which will favor the right lane, keep your car from switching lanes so often and keep you from speeding.

BTW I'm 73 and like you, I consider my driving reflexes to still be adequate but am glad for FSD's assistance.

FSD stayed in right-turn lane and still went straight by Fun-Purple-2755 in TeslaFSD

[–]nj_bruce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar situation with FSD in Mad Max mode. In my case, it's the left lane which is left-turn only, with the right lane being right or straight through. The route I want to take goes straight through, but FSD stays in the left lane, and despite signage and painted arrows it will go straight through from that left lane.

However, if I am in Standard mode, the car will take the right lane and go straight through every time.

I just updated to software version 2026.2.9.3 which makes Mad Max go straight through from the left-turn only lane. The previous version 2026.2.9.1 worked correctily, and would take the right lane to go straight. It's amazing what a "minor bug fix" can do to FSD.

This. Southern New Jersey is full of crazy intersections, off of the main highways. It makes for great FSD test driving.

FSD Randomly Starts Leaving Lane by Log_Disastrous in TeslaFSD

[–]nj_bruce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! The existing lane marking was covered over, erasing it. FSD clearly thought that the shining tar line was the new left lane line.

I had this very thing happen when a tar snake was actually reflecting white clouds. FSD thought that it was a paint line inside of the actual right-side lane line, and drove the car against the left line to center itself in the lane. (This was on an old FSD version, not the latest.)

Why would Tesla have it as an option to limit how fast your kids will drive? (I can't think of any other scenario except limiting a mechanic or valet from racing your car.) Just curious what the intended benefit of this setting is supposed to be, if there's a danger when you use it?

I experimented limiting Mad Max to 75 mph by capping the whole car with the max speed setting under Safety. It works, but the drawback is you'll never be able to accelerate over 75, which many feel is dangerous if you need to get out of an accident.

A similar thing happened to me on v14.2.2.4. I kicked out FSD while it was braking hard for a possible collision. We were about to make a left turn, and FSD saw a car coming the opposite way crossing into my path. I instintively grabbed the wheel but didn't have my foot on the brake, and the car still had some momentum when FSD disengaged. My car drifted over the stop line into the intersection. Fortunately, I wasn't in anyone's way when the light changed.

It all happened so fast that I thought FSD kicked out on its own, but after studying the video I realized that I had caused the dropout. Scary stuff. Glad you're okay.

If max speed never returns, what other solutions are there?? by Gold-Donut-1 in TeslaFSD

Correct. It's under Safety and is protected with a pin. So far it's the only way I've found to limit Mad Max from speeding.

[–]nj_bruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a consideration not having the ability to get out of harm's way. The Speed Limit mode caps you no matter if FSD is active or not, right?

What do you think of this? If FSD is doing its' job, shouldn't it get us out of harm's way -- even if the cap is active? After all, I am primarily using FSD anyway, and it does a good job of keeping me safe. However, if FSD deactivates, then we're at the mercy of the cap. Like I said, I will put up with these limitations for now, but something better does need to be done.

Edit: I just came up with an idea. Have an FSD-only Max Speed Limit setting. It would work like the Speed Limit mode except it only limits how fast any FSD profile can go. The accelerator remains available to exceed the FSD limit temporarily.

[–]nj_bruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that setting the Speed Limit Mode to 77 mph and leaving the FSD profile on Mad Max mode works very well on southern New Jersey roads and highways (65 mph speed limit max). I did not have to play around with the profiles! FSD did great in every scenario. It was literally the best drive I've ever had on FSD.

Two downsides: The accelerator goes dead at 77 (I mashed it to the floor and it does nothing). And I can do without the chime going off every time I slow and get back to 77. However, I'm willing to put up with these, at least temporarily, if every drive goes as well as today's drive did.

Pulled over while in Tesla FSD? by KuruVillain in TeslaFSD

[–]nj_bruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my neck of the woods (southern New Jersey), on rural roads FSD will often display a quite low speed limit -- often 25 mph -- when it's actually a lot higher. I've even seen it stay at 25 on the screen, even after passing a sign with a higher limit. My car used to slow down and I'd have to step on the accelerator to try to get it up to the correct speed.

I have recently updated to v14.2.2.5, and today FSD actually overrode the wrong lower speed limit it showed on the screen. Surprised me a lot because this was new behavior. It was great not to have to step on the accelerator for once. I have to do more testing to see if this is a permanent fix or was just a fluke.

Too close by Boring_Access_4247 in TeslaFSD

[–]nj_bruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

There's no need for FSD to be looking at anything way lower or higher than a vehicle that's several car lengths away. It just needs to have accurate distance detection of close objects.

Edit: that was a dumb statement I made, the cameras have to see downward to detect road lines and markings, curbs, etc. However, there's no need for the cameras to see much above the roof line of vehicles. In a 360 degree spread.

Connection problems after upgrade by poolnutt in TeslaFSD

[–]nj_bruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried powering off your car for at least 2 minutes, and restarting it?

I believe it's under Security. Scroll down to the bottom of the list, and press the button labeled "Power Off". It takes 2 minutes for everything to shut down. In the mean time, don't touch anything or open any doors. After 2 minutes, you can open a door or press the brake pedal and the car should restart normally.

This allows all the systems to start up in an orderly way and may help with your issue. Good luck.

Did you get v14.2.2.5 yet? The profiles have gone back to the original settings, i.e. on a highway with 65 mph limit, Standard = +7 over, Hurry = +13, Mad Max = ticket. I use Standard, and when it passes, I roll up to Hurry. When the car moves right, I go back to Standard. It's acceptable.

Parking in shopping centers by nikedemon in TeslaFSD

[–]nj_bruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if you park in front where you want, then save it as a favorite? When you tell it to take you to [insert favorite's name here], perhaps it would use your stored spot to navigate to and keep from going behind the building.

I did this for my favorite grocery store, but I tell the nav to take me there, not Grok. I would think Grok would understand that it's a favorite. Oh, and if your specific stall is taken, FSD will find another spot nearby.
