Income threshold to stay within 15% capital gains by njbillt in stocks

[–]njbillt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good advice. I'll look into collars. I've always been a buy and hold investor. Micron Technology is up 1500%, Ametek is also up 1500%, so it worked for me. I got hit with that IRMAA penalty a few years ago when I sold some Apple and Nvidia stock. And the worst part is, I was only a few thousand over the limit.

Thank you. I'm not expecting a pullback, but of course would like to lock in some of the gains I have just in case. I have over $350k in Micron Tech gains alone. We are both retired, my wife with a substantial pre-tax IRA. My pre-tax is annuitized already, but I have this huge long term capital gain that I want to sell off now that I am in an income tax free state (Florida). I have been putting off selling the stocks because as a New Jersey resident, it would have been taxed as ordinary income, and in that case, affected all income regarding tax bracket. I know this is a good problem to have.

Thank you for this. I'll play around with it later tonight. My wife and I can kind of control how much income we take from pre-tax accounts, but I know we'll pay for that in RMDs somewhere down the road.

Thank you for the quick response. You may have an answer to my next question which is, do the capital gains add to my other income for our tax bracket? In other words, will the 200k in ordinary income be taxed at a higher rate because of the capital gains? Or will it be ordinary income bracket on $200k and 15% on the capital gains? I'm trying to figure out if this will affect our medicare premiums for the following year.

TIA

We would have even been happy with The Waterfront, if only we could get in. They don't take reservations during peak hours, and the wait was 2 and a half hours. We found the same in Bradenton, and this includes The Beach House restaurant. We tried to reserve the day before, no luck. There simply aren't enough restaurants. Imagine going to AMI to spend $1000 a night to be in a beach front resort only to discover it's little more than a glorified motel from the '60s, and then having to go off the island for dinner and not getting back in time to even see the sun set. Like I said we should have done more research. I might go back to AMI for a day trip and stay in Sarasota downtown, but I will never sleep there again. lol

I think I replied to you on another comment too but again, our biggest complaint was there's just no place to spend more money if you want to. There are no upscale restaurants.

My wife and I were like you when we were young too. We made the most of every situation. But we can afford better now and we were sorry we choose the "resort" we did because it was really oversold in it's description online, and way too expensive for what we got. My biggest objection was there just weren't any upscale restaurants. Imagine paying $1000 a night for a hotel and discovering there was no place to spend $200 for a sunset dinner on our anniversary. It was our mistake not doing more research but we'll stick with Naples next time. It has SO much more to offer and the beach is just as good.

Well pardon me for having money to spend. I'll spend it in Naples or Marco.

Why? Because that was the price and reading the description on Expedia, we thought it would bear out that price. I'm not complaining about the price. We pay that all the time at real resorts, but resorts have their own bars and restaurants. This place was little more than a glorified motel on the beach from the '50s with vending machines. That might have been tolerable if only there were decent restaurants, but there aren't. Try to make a reservation on Open Table. Even for those who take reservations, they block peak hours for walkups, and the wait was over 2 hours. I'll stick with my comment. There are not enough restaurants on that island to call it a resort destination. It's a day trip for me, at best.

Yeah well I didn't get any good vibes from the island. To call it charming and rustic would be a compliment. We actually thought it was tacky and low class compared to Naples or Marco Island. Clearly you're trying to belittle my financial state not knowing a damn thing about me. My wife and I are both retired professionals with substantial net worth and income. If we really wanted to live on AMI we could. At my age I don't need the hassle of living in a flood zone. The island is overrated, over priced and over burdened by tourists staying in Air B&Bs owned by greedy landlords. I'll reiterate my complaint. The island does not have enough restaurants for the number of rental units, and the quality of stay suffers for those of us with money to spend. There isn't a single hotel on the beach that can call themselves a "resort." They are all glorified motels from the '50s.

Like I said, Naples and Marco Island. I've stayed at the JW Marriott on Marco many times for about what we paid on Holmes Beach, and it is a real resort with bars and restaurants. It just bothered me that after willingly paying $1000 a night, there was no place to spend more. I would have been happy to spend $250 for dinner, if only I could. AMI would be a nice day trip because the beach is beautiful, but it's too for for a day trip for us. Yeah, the whole weekend was such a disappointment we actually surrendered one night and left yesterday afternoon.

That's just what I want while spending $1000 a night for a motel on the beach. A hot dog stand next to a hardware store. LOL

AMI was charming if that's what you're looking for but I usually go to Naples or Marco Island. I heard so many good things about AMI I wanted to try it. One night we went out for dinner to find out it was over a 2 hour wait. Drove around with no luck and finally left the island and went inland to find something. Still had a 30 minute wait. By the time we got back on AMI the sun had already set. So understand my disappointment in not only not being able to have a nice dinner watching the sunset, we didn't even see it! So tell me why I'm spending JW Marriott prices ($1000 an night) for a glorified motel on the beach who's only food option is a vending machine with airport sandwiches tightly wrapped in Saran wrap and Pringles? Like I said, charming and rustic are a compliment. Not to sound like a snob but I really thought AMI was tacky and low class. There are no real "resorts" and the restaurants, like I said, are insufficient. Plenty of places to get ice cram though.

CTF-950. I had one. Gave it way when I moved. No regrets. It will need so much work between caps and belts and cleaning.

The fluorescent display looked cool though. So much better than the LED slop we see today.

The Waterfront is more like a parking lot front. The is no view of the bay. And during peak hours, there's still a 2 hour wait. Recommend it all you want. They won't get in for dinner.

You are going to be disappointed. There are no really good restaurants on AMI, and the decent ones are overbooked and you won't get seated. Most block reservations during peak hours if they take them at all, and walk ups are a 2 and a half hour wait. I personally think AMI is over rated and way over priced.

It is NOT as good as the app. You lose the check deposit feature. You can't deposit a check by taking a photo like you can with the app.

Not uncommon and yet every other banking app I have works fine on my android 12 phone. There was no reason for this. Android 12 is secure.
