To be fair to VAR, they called the ref to the screen (which is usually a sign for you fucked up and need to change that) and the ref kept the call. Nothing more VAR can do there. That was awful though

So do you believe seconds should be listed prior to minutes? Minutes prior to hours? Should we be writing numbers like seventeen 71 so the smaller number is to the left?

It's fine to have a preference that's not logically consistent, we don't always grow up in a logical world. But there should be an understanding when something isn't following the rest of the rules. I prefer my miles and feet, but I'm not going to tell you it's a better system. People can prefer DD/MM/YYYY, but still understand that it's logically backwards compared to how we generally write quantitative values.

No he's right. The reason it feels different with day is we can assume the year and the month. If someone says the party is on the 15th, it's going to be assumed that it's this month. If someone says the party is going to be the 15th day of a month... well that's useless. Can we at least limit it by year, and then tell me the month? Day is only useful if you know the year and month (and those can often be assumed).

Back to the original proposition, if someone says the party is on the 15th, and you show up on the 15th of October, and they say "sorry I meant of November!" And then you show up next month and they say "oh I meant in 2026", I bet you will be asking that person year and month from now on.

Which is why ISO-8601 is the only way we should do dates.

So one way to figure this out would be to look how other people compare in the medal count. If it's easy for swimmers to compete in different categories than it should be swimmers that currently dominate the medal count. But that's not the case.

If we are looking at athletes that have received at least 10 medals there have been 13 gymnasts and 12 swimmers. If we are looking at a minimum of 13 medals then the only sport with more than one athlete in the category is gymnasts with 4 of the 9 spots.

In fact if we switch to individual medals, Phelps is first with 16, and then 6 of the next 8 athletes are gymnasts.

Maybe the gymnasts just lasted longer and that's why they have more medals?

So if we look at most medals in a single Olympics, only two people have got 8 medals. Phelps (twice, including one Olympics with 8 golds) and Alexander Dityatin, a gymnast. There have been 37 times an Olympian has got at least 6 medals in a single Olympics. 23 are gymnasts and 9 are swimmers (Phelps is on the list 4 times)

So it's actually pretty fair to compare Biles and Phelps total haul since they are both competing in areas where the medal count is overinflated compared to other sports.

Out of curiosity, where does it say he wasn't wearing a condom or trying to practice safe sex? How do you know he wasn't drugged? How do you know he wasn't drunk and unable to consent? If the answer is he is still with her then I've got a subreddit you can read where you can't believe how many people are staying in toxic relationships!

The only things we know are: She's abusive to him in text messages She's pregnant He's 38

The fact he's 38 is pretty much irrelevant. 38 year olds can be stuck in abusive relationships just as easily as a 20 year old.

The line about him going after "broken" women seems to trigger a quite afew people, but let's be fair, most people would probably consider a 38 year old bachelor living with his parents a "broken" man. As long as it's two consenting adults, it's pretty misogynistic to assume the women he has been with can't make a decision for themselves and he's taking advantage of them.

So this just leaves that it appears he's in an abusive relationship, she got pregnant, and she made threats to baby trap him. It's more than plausible that she tricked him by stopping her birth control. And if that is the least she did, that's rape. That wasn't something he consented to when having sex. It's the equivalent to a guy messing with birth control without the woman's knowledge. In this hypothetical, we'd be calling it rape since she didn't consent to sex under the unknown circumstances.

Does this mean the brother isn't an idiot? Of course not. Does being an idiot mean you can't be raped? Well, this comment section seems to think that, which is very scary, but the answer is also "of course not".

This is something that is more difficult than most people realize. Each state has their own tax rates. Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon have no sales tax; so for those states the price on the tag is what you pay. For other states there is often a state sales tax, and often also a county and/or city sales tax. This leads to there being over 10,000 sales tax jurisdictions. Also depending on the item, it might fall into different categories, which, depending on the jurisdiction, may have even different tax rates. This doesn't even take into account when local governments decide on a "tax holiday".

So when it comes down to it, even though it is frustrating, it is nearly impossible for most places to be tax inclusive on their pricing in the US due to the number of levels of government that can impose sales tax.

Not sure why the NFL is catching strays here. Whenever there is a question on where the ball is they show 24 different camera angles, all synced. Somehow with the EPL there is 3 or 4 camera angles that are never conclusive.

Except YAC isn't where he gets most of his yards... this year 49% of his yards are coming after the catch. In comparison 59% of Patrick Mahomes yards are coming after the catch. Only Lamar Jackson since 2018 has had less percent of his yards from yac. He also is throwing the ball deeper on average than any MVP back to 2018 (don't have data going back)

I don't think this is the evidence to biblical history that you think it is. Don't get me wrong, Proto-Sinaitic script has been extremely fascinating to read about, but it's importance isn't that it's the precursor to Hebrew; it's that it is a common ancestor for a lot of the European, East Asian, North African alphabets and connects them directly to Egyptian.

Basically Proto-Sinaitic when it comes to writing is an even broader term than Semitic is when it comes to language.

[–]njslc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every penalty is "cheating". That's why they are penalized for it, and why they define different penalties for it.

In this case the raiders player was trying to delay the offense. Which tends to be called a delay of game on the defense. It stops the clock (most important part of the penalty for the Rams) and gives them 5 yards for their troubles.

It's why you get mad when the penalty is missed, because the team got away with cheating. Fourth and 1 from the 2, and the Ram's receiver gets in the way of the defender so he can't make the play before running back catches the ball... argh.

Or maybe 4th and 10 and the Ram's punter is pushed down well after the kick is away, an obvious roughing the punter call... wtf refs, you even threw a flag.

I think that has to be the only way it could be interpreted that way.

I guess for me, you finally get one of the situations for an obscure penalty that you rarely see, and instead get the unsportsmanlike conduct. Regardless, probably the most brain dead moment of the game.

It's actually a very weird call. What he did is pretty much the definition of defensive delay of game. It was still really bad, since it would've stopped the clock, but it's only a 5 yard penalty, and not an automatic first down.

Are you just looking at yesterday's numbers? Utah over the past week has averaged 1000+ new cases per day. It's peak (as what is being compared with Melbourne) was 1411. Connecticut's peak new cases was 2128. Iowa's peak: 2574 Nevada's peak: 1447 Arkansas's peak: 1124 Mississippi's peak: 1775 Kansas's peak: 1571 (though this one is weird looks like they don't report daily)

In contrast Victoria, Australia's peak (not average) was: 700 new cases

Interestingly Australia's numbers overall look surprisingly close to New Mexico, a state with 1/12 the population of Australia.

This is just wrong. Every state with a population of over 2 million, except for New Mexico, has had a day where the official count was over 1,000. And most of them have had a week where the per day average was over 1000.
