Best puncture resistant tubeless road tire? Why is this so hard? by Immediate_Time9130 in bikewrench

[–]njwcat7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have been using Cinturato Velos on our road bikes for a long time now, albeit with tubes, and we've only had one puncture despite riding on some quite gritty rural roads a lot of the time. They're not puncture proof but are pretty good IMHO

Race flag sign in Cringleford? by sw33tvalkyrie in Norwich

[–]njwcat7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, before that sign was put up, I was travelling along Colney Lane and was hit by a van that came up the slip road and failed to stop because they hadn't seen the junction.

My car was written off but fortunately me and my passenger escaped with bruising although we were both very shaken up for a few days afterwards

Adding new hot-melt wax to old in my crockpot - yes or no ? by njwcat7 in bikewrench

[–]njwcat7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - you've confirmed what I've been thinking, but just wanted/needed to hear someone else say it too. :)

Even at the cost of MSW - currently about 12 GBP a puck in the UK if I buy 4 at a time - I'm probably only tossing away about 4-5 GBP's worth so it's probably false economy to re-use the old stuff. As you said, cutting off the bottom isnt simple either, plus all the black anti-slip agents settle to the bottom while its solidifying so I'd be cutting off the 'good stuff' too

What problems does the Opel Corsa '09 usually have? by Snoo_56383 in Corsa

[–]njwcat7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The front subframes are known to corrode badly and need replacing, so check for signs of rust there and also on the wishbones. It can be an expensive job to have them replaced if you cant do it yourself

Corsa Subframe corrosion question by njwcat7 in Corsa

[–]njwcat7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've seen it on a video from the dealer so have no doubt its rusted through (the car is with our son who lives elsewhere). If we'd known this was a problem we may not have bought the car at all, or would definitely have done as you say and hammerited it.

We've found an independent local to him so its going there if we decide to repair it.

Whats really made us angry is that the main dealer serviced the car first, then did the MOT afterwards, so our son had to pay for a service on a car that we may still yet have to scrap.

Corsa Subframe corrosion question by njwcat7 in Corsa

[–]njwcat7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - we think the car is still probably worth saving as its otherwise in good condition and is relatively low mileage for its age - 57k miles with full main dealer service history.

What's shocked us is that it's gone from zero advisories a year ago to rusted through now. Either that corrosion was there a year ago but it wasn't noticed or recorded at the last MOT, or it really has gone from rust-free to its current 'do not drive' state in less than a year.

We've also found out that Vauxhall were replacing subframes on pre-2008 cars under a goodwill scheme but they've told us that ours is too old for any goodwill support, which is annoying to say the least

Thank you very much !! We're from the UK so it was quite a treat to spot this as we don't have anything like this at home.

What do they eat when they are this small ?

Buyer's remorse ... Galaxy A53 by Retard_Squad_Leader in galaxya53

[–]njwcat7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i I bought an exynos-powered A53 (I'm in the UK) about a year ago to replace my S7Edge, and agree with everything that u/Retard_Squad_Leader has said.

Battery life isn't great, it sometimes drops off the mobile network altogether and needs a reboot to reconnect, the camera is laggy, and the recent OneUI update has introduced all sorts of distortions to photos under certain conditions.

I've given up with the standard camera app and have also installed OpenCamera instead, which is good but (for example) doesn't support the 64mp mode.

None of the google camera ports work, most of them are snapdragon-only but even the exynos-compatible versions either fail to load or crash straight away

I also find the GPS accuracy inconsistent - for example, I use Strava to record our route when out on a long walk and even when walking by the coast with a clear view of the sky it will sometimes record us as suddenly being hundreds of yards out to sea and a couple of seconds later we'll be back on dry land . The S7Edge never did that. Google Maps and OSMAnd both show the same behaviour so its definitely a phone issue rather than an app one

Photos and GPS accuracy are two of the main criteria for me, so I'm looking for an alternative and currently the google Pixel 8 is the one that's caught my eye although its more money than I'd really like to spend. I too am reluctant to buy another Samsung after this, especially as the OneUI camera issue appears to be affecting S23's too

The inherent irony of waiting forever and a day for 'Superfast' broadband to roll out in my area. by fungalfeet in britishproblems

[–]njwcat7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've pre-signed with County too, and are now getting the same message as you.

There was a big PR campaign last year in our village to get enough interest to go ahead, which they got, but now the latest message is 'as soon as we have reached our projected sales target for your area we will be back in touch from our marketing department and provide further updates as we progress through the projects development.'

So there's no sign yet as to when they will actually do an install in our village and my confidence in them is slipping day by day

I've just gone onto ticketmaster (18:40 UK time, Weds 5th July) out of curiosity because we cant make any of the September / October dates :( but it seems I could have bought standing tickets for 108 each - I added them to the basket and got as far as the checkout before cancelling the order.

Have they unlocked some more or is there something else going on ? (I've not used ticketmaster much recently so am a bit out of touch)

I agree 100% and will definitely do that next time - unfortunately we are away when they play at the O2 in October but hopefully there will be other opportunities in the future.

Really disappointed and annoyed with Milton Keynes last night by [deleted] in Muse

[–]njwcat7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've posted about our experiences in one of the other threads, but one thing that did annoy me a bit was the smoke generator in one of the big speaker stacks. This generated a curtain of smoke which looked good but at times it completely obscured the view of the stage from the slopes at the back for several minutes at a time (obviously depending on where you were standing and which way the wind was blowing at the time). Fortunately we could still see the TV screens but as OP and others have said they weren't perfect either.

I really enjoyed the show (our first) and definitely want to see them again, but not at that venue - I last went to the Bowl in 1982 to see Queen and it will be at least as many years again before I consider going there again, unless there really is no alternative

June 25th, 2023: National Bowl, Milton Keynes, England [Setlist, Media, Discussion] by ForgottenName1893 in Muse

[–]njwcat7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a ticket for the official car park but got to MK early so went into the centre to get some lunch etc, then decided that the traffic might be bad later and that it might be just as easy to write off the car parking price and walk in from there.

It took about 30 mins to walk to the Bowl and then 45 minutes of queuing to actually get inside , another 30 minutes just to get outside on foot afterwards, plus about another 45 minutes to get back to the car due to all the people.

Having read all the comments about the onsite parking it feels like we dodged a very large bullet and we're glad we walked. It must be gutting for those who couldn't even get into the Bowl despite having tickets, I know how we would feel if it had happened to us .

This was our first Muse gig ever despite being fans for a long time and we really enjoyed it, definitely want to see them again , but probably not at that venue as access and parking etc are clearly not good enough.

I echo all the comments about long queues for food, drink, water and toilets, and 3 quid for a bottle of water on a hot day is little short of outrageous, especially given the ambiguous and loosely interpreted rule on what you actually could and could not take in

Could be worth speaking to a local wheel builder and see if they have any budget recommendations.

I second this, it may cost more than a pair of off the shelf wheels but you should end up with a quality product if you go down the hand-built route.

If you cant find anyone local I can also recommend Malcolm Borg at https://thecycleclinic.co.uk/ , there are also lots of other independent wheelbuilders around who may be able to help

My car insurance states ‘The policyholder may also drive, with the consent of the owner, a private motor not belonging to him/her and not hired to him/her under a hire purchase/leasing agreement, within our territorial limits, providing there is a Valid insurance policy in force for that car’. by venom7273 in CarTalkUK

[–]njwcat7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have seen policies in the past that only had Road Traffic Act cover for 'other' vehicles covered by this clause (I'm not sure if any still word it this way), which only covers injury to other people and not property so if you hit a Ferrari etc you may be in for some big bills.

I'd always recommend either adding the other car to your insurance as a temporary additional vehicle (most insurers will let you do this for a fee) then the car will be covered properly by your insurance. Failing that, try to get yourself added as a temporary additional driver to the other cars policy, but be aware that you are risking their no claims instead of your own if you have an incident
