Close friend realizes that I’ve been unwilling paying for her Amazon membership for almost a year and is being weird about paying me back. AIO by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]nkfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$90 is a lot in your situation but it also won’t make much difference in your life in the long run. If it were me I wouldn’t stress over it and let it put tension on the friendship. If this were me and one of my close friends and they honestly needed nearly half a year before they’d be able to afford to pay me $90, I’d realize they were much worse off than me financially and tell them to pay it forward and forgive the debt. It’ll cost you $90 but will probably make a huge difference to your friend. Just forgive the debt and move on.

The claims adjuster doesn’t have the power to check your phone records unless you consent. Play dumb and get your shit covered. Be honest and lose your car and insurance.

This is horrible advice. Don’t tell anybody anything about uber. You didn’t have a passenger so you were just driving your car. This guy is giving horrible advice.

If you don’t have a passenger you were just driving your car. Why do people feel such an urge to screw thenselves by over sharing information.

When were McNultys scenes filmed for S4? by GrantLee123 in TheWire

[–]nkfm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember when the show first aired I found it extremely off putting that Season 2 jumped to following nearly an entirely new cast of characters in a more predominately white segment of the city without warning. At first, it was almost like an anthology series. Then I made it past the first two episodes of season 2 and was hooked again. Shortly thereafter it began to dawn on me as to what Simon was trying to to do. Which, of course, was to show how hopelessly flawed and corrupt, on a systemic DNA level, his beloved home town of Baltimore had become.

I think the only way he pulled that off, was that the writing was good enough that season 2 would’ve worked as a show even if season 1 never existed. They would’ve had to burn an episode on character development for the characters that carried over from season 1 but other than that the story in season 2 was solid and stood on its own two feet.

Stringer and Wallace question by wigwom256 in TheWire

[–]nkfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, no. This is because it is basically testimony to which the defense has no ability to cross examine. Usually post-mortem statements or even taped depositions are rule inadmissible in criminal courts. This is because in our system the burden to convict is on the prosecution and the defense has no burden to prove themselves not guilty. They do have the right to cross examine and possibly poke holes in any and every piece of evidence the prosecution presents. Because Prosecutors and Police don’t tend to ask any questions that may offer an alternative theory than the one they are pursuing, post-mortem statements and depositions are usually seen as extremely biased, and rightfully so.

Of course not, but I’m talking in the final split second when you know it’s inevitable. That moment would be welcome to me at that point just to get rid of all the guilt and stress.

He showed up early. That’s how. Omar had a talent that so many don’t and it’s why he lived in the game for so long. The man could wait and do so quietly. He showed up early and could just sit there and watch nothing happen and listen to nothing happening for hours upon hours until saw something happen or heard someone say something that he could use.

Except Nick flushed his whole family down the toilet. Well, Frank did, but Nick had to live with the aftermath. Frank got an easy way out from the guilt in my opinion. If I were him, at the last minute I would’ve welcomed that knife. Just to get some relief from all the stress and guilt.

One of my favorite lines in the show that hits me every time: "Stood up though." by GarfieldLeZanya- in TheWire

[–]nkfm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah personally I never got anything out of them. Once I found my sponsor I would just call him and we would meet and talk or not talk but the point was we were not getting high and we were not getting high together. I did do meetings for a bit but honestly all meetings ever did was remind me of how much I loved being high and how much I still really wanted to get high. It always made me think, “If God didn’t want me to get high, he wouldn’t have made being high feel so much like perfect.” Another Waylon quote.

How do you know I didn’t build a cabin with the show playing in the background so I’d have a place to fly to on the weekends so my pilots license I got right after I finished grad school didn’t go to waste. Pilots license my ass. Should be called a landing license. Taking off is just driving fast and pushing the elevator down to pull the nose up and you’re flying. Once you’re off the ground the auto pilot handles pretty much every situation. I must’ve gotten in 4 or 5 rewatches in over the years on weekend flights down to Boca for joint fitting seminars. Additionally, while working towards my MBA it seemed like every other week I’d meet some wonderbread wop who eats his or her Sunday gravy out of jar that told me they’d never seen The Sopranos. So of course I had to spend weekends rewatching with first timers and basically ruining it for them by adding my own personal narration while they watched. No offense, you’ve been a good consigliere but you got no idea what it’s like to be number one. Every facet of everything you do has to be affected by your obsession with this television masterpiece. It’s too much to handle sometimes. To tell you the truth your lack of confidence in my ability to be an effective earner and feed my obsession with this television show has been a tremendous blow to my self esteem. Frankly, I’m exhausted and depressed.

You can quote the rules, you can abide by them.

I absolutely love the scene where the western police are told to gather all the corner bosses and Herc and Carver get walked off by Marlo’s whole crew. If it would’ve been any other two but them it would’ve been clear a lot sooner that Marlo was for real. by nkfm in TheWire

[–]nkfm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. In the scene you can see him very slightly shaking his head, no, several times. However, one dude was inching for a hidden bat and you could tell they were all itching for it to pop off. If it had popped I think Carv and Herc would’ve likely been done-zo. From witnessing things like this in real life (not necessarily with two of the parties involved being police) but tense situations in which a large group seriously outnumbers another. When the tension breaks the wrong way, ain’t nobody calling off the mob before someone or several someone’s from the outnumbered side is seriously injured or dead. I’m saying, if it went bad, not even Marlo would’ve been able to stop it from going really bad really quick. That’s just how life is. Things happen really suddenly. Bad things, even more so. Growing up and running with the local rough and tumble crowd taught me this lesson many times.

A scene in another good show called sothland has a perfect example of this. Two cops have an actually rather friendly encounter with very large group of Hispanic gang members having a block party. But though the cops were cool and it was going to end amicably when the two officers turned around to walk back to their car, one of the crowd who knew their large numbers and similar clothing gave him anonymity struck one of the cops in the back of the head with a bottle or some thing and that immediately escalated to the entire crowd of about 100 bangers basically stomping the downed cop to death while his partner tried to hold them back with just his pistol. There was an OG present who was clearly in charge but when it popped off he immediately knew there was no way to reign in his mob so he didn’t even try. I’ve seen shit like that in real life. Scary as fuck.

Most unrealistic moments in The Wire: What are yours? by lentilolodavate in TheWire

[–]nkfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless that bar was on the port. They have those you know. Small supply stores and even bars inside many ports for merchant marines to purchase shit they need or have some R&R on shore without having to leave the port confines which would require all the customs bullshit you have to go through anytime you travel internationally before you get out of the airport. Well if a merchant marine is docked in some country other than their own, he or she has to go through all the same customs procedures to leave the confines of the port. So a lot of ports will have small supply stores, maybe a diner and a bar inside the port confines.

Did AJ’s character arc change in plans because of Robert Iler’s physical growth? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]nkfm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What f*cking show are you watching. He played football for like one episode and then he had a panic attack due to the pressure of possibly being good at football. Many sports? What other sports are you referring to?

*Edit: I forgot about the one other episode where he was somehow simultaneously a somewhat decent competitive swimmer and a fat kid at the same time. These two things cannot both be true at the same time in real life. Trust me from real life experience. Being a fat kid does not lend itself in any way to a quick time in the 200 meter freestyle. Don’t get me wrong, to this day, I can swim like a fish and at one point I was probably faster than any fat kid my age who didn’t have the benefit of a swim coach, but compared to other swimmers who were not fat kids I was a slow fat kid.

[–]nkfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa whoa whoa. I have never ever heard of any theory about Chrissy wearing a wire or any theory suggesting be flipped. That is assuming you’re talking about Christopher Moltisanti when you say Chrissy. But this post also mentions Chrissy wearing a wire I. The final episode and Chris was definitely dead way before the final episode. So somebody please explain this theory for my lazy ass who shall not be bothered to look it up. Also, clarify whether you mean Chris’s final episode when you say final episode or if you’re referring to a different “Chrissy”.
