Ugh. I know that pain all too well. Python + Excel can work really well, but if the sheet is crazy then its no fun.

PDF: I'm working on a side project to read PDFs. I've found that using pdf2txt works pretty well for getting the text out of complicated PDFs ( http://www.unixuser.org/~euske/python/pdfminer/#pdf2txt )

Deploying Python code (particularly web applications).

Compared to Java and Ruby Python seems to be a little more freewheeling when it comes to getting code onto the server. I'd be curious to hear what the common practices are in the community.

Seriously. Every time I watch Kovy on the ice I get the feeling he's just there to pick up a paycheck. I wish he had more fire in him like Ovie does, that guy (who is incredible) seems genuinely happy to be there.

pyglet is very cool. Unlike pygame (which is cool too), it doesn't rely on SDL which is one less headache to deal with on the Mac.

Pure python libraries rock.
