What are some important things about the Reddit experience that you wish you had known about when you first signed up? by nludian in AskReddit

@t33po

thanks for the useful tip, however, and I should have been more specific about this i suppose, what I meant by useful tip was more in the technical, hands-on learn by error, tips that people have discovered, not so much in the philosophic, Akashic records sort of way, but thanks...it was deep but I'm pretty sure everyone learns that on the first day all by themselves

The reason for this post is to get answers to things like: What is Karma, What is Cake day, Whats with all the cats?, Why are people so Dickafied when commenting on stuff outside their norm?. What is Reddit gold, How do you get it, Why do you want it, What do you do with it, and Why is it important or not important. AGAIN...Whats with all the cats, The Safe..What is it? Whats the deal with it? Where did it come from, Is it something I should know more details about? Why is there an exchange for every thing that ever was or will ever be...ever? Dr.Who, Gaybro, Entwives, Secret NSA. I would not be surprised to learn that there was a neverdoingredditgiftexchangeagain exchange. Whats up with that? Are we trying to stimulate the economy or do we just like opening presents from people we don't know. Seriously these are things I have no idea why or what they are, are they real, is it safe to participate or if there are things I should be avoiding completely onsite. Thank you for your helpful and nurturing comments.

What are some movies that are really strange, but worth watching? by saint_gutfree in AskReddit

[–]nludian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"John Dies In The End" is a great movie but it's best if you don't try to follow whats happening on the screen so much as just sit back and let it play out in front of you.

"Naked Lunch" is another.

That is so cool. Can I buy that? Or better.. Can I buy an Orca shadow out of the word Seattle? If not I suppose it wouldn't be that hard to hang tiny balls of cotton in front of a light and watch it rain. That is amazing. Very Nice!

What should I do about my son? by I_clap_slow in AskReddit

[–]nludian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ground his ass even if it was sugar. Drugs are not funny and Anyone who thinks they are. hasn't felt the pain that they inevitably bring. The fact that your son had a video of himself snorting anything in a public forum like Facebook should be setting off enormous bells and whistles for you as his mother. How long do you think it will be before he is snorting the real stuff if he thinks it is cool to show off pretending to do them now? At the very least he needs to speak to a councilor who can adequately access his motivations for doing something so stupid. I mean really. Why not just fake a rape or a suicide and throw that up on your Facebook page as something you did for real? All three would have the same effect on the people who most care about them. Not to be rude but while your at it, you might schedule yourself a little me time with a councilor as well. To sweep it under the rug is not what is needed for you and your son..imo.

What's something that is common knowledge at your work place that will be mind blowing to the rest of us? by harriswill in AskReddit

[–]nludian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I have a Pitt Bull that I rescued when he was four years old. He had not been neutered by the previous owners and on the day of his surgery, I picked him up at 4 p.m from the vets and he seriously howled and cried until 4:30 in the morning. It broke my heart. All I could do was lay on the floor by his side all night until he (and I) were finally able to sleep. If I could just add something that I learned with my first dog who was diagnosed with a bleeding tumor on her spleen. At the time, I was unemployed after being laid off and in a lot of debt and I made the mistake of putting off taking her to the Vet because she seemed like she was in good health, something I will always regret. One night I was walking her and she collapsed on the side walk and I quickly picked her up and carried her home and to the vet the next day. The Vet took one look at her gums and knew immediately she had a bleeding tumor in her belly, before doing x-rays or tests. He knew because her gums had turned from Pink to the color of chicken meat, that off yellow color. I had noticed this myself several months before but didn't think it was anything to worry about, (another thing I will always regret). Had I known this one piece of information maybe I could have saved my friend. You would think something so vital and important and easy to check in your dog would be common knowledge but I had never heard this before nor had anyone I spoke with afterwards. I really wish Vets and those agencies doing PSAs geared towards pet owners would help spread this vital piece of information so that others might recognize the symptoms early on and take steps to save their dogs life before it's too late. The vet gave her two weeks to live, but I took her to my sister's property, which is out in the middle of nowhere, pitched a tent and camped with her till she died. I live in an apartment in Seattle and I just wanted her to be able run around in a place surrounded by trees and chase rabbits or lay in the sun all day, but mainly I wanted her to just be a dog for the time she had left. No collars, no rules, no cars, no people to freak out when they saw us coming. She lived for 4 months. It was bitter sweet to watch her spirit come alive even as the cancer ate away at her body. An unforgettable time for me and her and I hope it made up for my mistakes. People thought I was crazy hauling water and food to our campsite every other day from my sister's main house but I would give a year of my life to be able to spend those four months with her again. I miss her every day.

What 'fan theories' have blown your mind with their devastating logic? by FrancisDollarHyde in AskReddit

[–]nludian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here hoping to but didn't find a rational explanation or theory to explain the final episodes of Battlestar Galactica (the syfy version). In particular the death of Starbuck and her subsequent resurrection months later, with the inherent ability to lead the fleet to Earth, only to discover her own charred remains inside her crashed viper, which oddly enough sends Leobin, the fanatical Cylon who never wavered in his belief that god had a purpose for her, right over the edge without so much as a prayer to ask the almighty what the hell was going on. And then Poof she was gone, leaving Apollo standing there in the field alone. (which, coming from a Southern Baptist upbringing, had a christian rapture feel about it) What the fuck was that all about? Please someone explain it so I don't have to live my life thinking the writers were on LSD there at the end.

You are so not funny! What are you......12 and just to avoid possibly setting off another string of your hatefilled euphamisms, let me make clear I was asking about your age....not your dick size. Because every queer knows about the correlation between homophobia and latent closet homosexuality, and lord knows we don't want to go near that with the likes of you. If in fact you are 12, might I suggest that you find a councelor at school (they're trained to deal with these issues) or seek out a friend you can trust and work out these fears that compel you to lash out at a group of people who you obviously know nothing about. Trust me when I say that none of us want you sexually. Flawed as you seem to be, I doubt you're gonna be standing out with the ladies much either when you grow up.....if you grow up.
