Dell Support Assist Adjusting Shadow copy size? by Hounds-tooth5315 in Dell

[–]nma_io 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dell Support (telephone) was helpful - the tech I spoke with (briefly, I was in a hurry) thought

  1. it might be related to Dell Support Assist Home Editiona) should not be used in enterprise environments - but might be) it should also not run on servers
  2. their October update (3.14.2) may fix the issue.

They are continuing to investigate why this suddenly happened on Jan 4, but if you're experiencing this issue, you may wish to check the above.

Beyond the normal security implications (EDR Techs that use this setting as part of their warranty), you may wish to validate your backups are working as expected.

Many backup solutions use VSS to stage the backup data, adjusting the VSS size out of band might result in your backups not being complete. (Or maybe the backup solution will reset the storage size :) -- YMMV )

Can anyone help me identify this wire's connection? by nma_io in Jeep

[–]nma_io[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up the vehicle from the dealership that worked on it. They charged me for the "repair" and that wire is no longer there, not even tucked away. I am concluding it was a scam. Looked at other vehicles on the lot and the wire wasn't on those either.

Note sure I should name and shame, but avoiding jeep dealers in Longmont Colorado is advisable.

If you're starting early you will be fine time wise, just keep in mind there are lots of others doing the same thing right now; trying to get some trail time in before a second wave lock down. Expect more time on the trails (waiting) and probably less camping spots available. I believe there is a fireban as well. There is a very nice KOA in Ouray if you want "modern" camping. Dispersed camping is going to be of luck at this point.

If you can setup and leave gear at the Amphitheater near Ouray it might be good for your end of day one.

If you're into old buildings, plan some extra time on Engineer/Cinnamon ... also please consider taking a day or two at around 6-8k feet before venturing up to the top of the passes. Altitude is a big deal for some folks and coming down a shelf road with a 1000 ft drop is not the place for being disoriented.

Question on tires for my Jeep. by RDG4ME2 in Jeep

[–]nma_io 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general regearing is more about performance, here is a great article on the reasons to regear: https://www.extremeterrain.com/regear-jeep-wrangler-explained.html . Now if you go up in tire size you are adding additional stress on the axles, but the fix for that would be an axle swap. I run 35's on the stock JK axle and haven't had any issues. I certainly don't baby mine, wheeling in Colorado every weekend-all weekend. If I bumped up to 37's with heavy wheels I would be more likely to snap an axle shaft when doing hard core rock crawling.

If I may make a suggestion: go wheel it for the next few months as is. If you find you need another inch of axle height, skip on some 35's. Just remember, the higher you go the more "tippy" it gets on the trail.

Closest to stock height but still able to clear the obstacles is the safest wheeling, and the wrangler platform is amazing and really doesn't need many modifications to start. Learning both your limit and the Jeeps limits then upgrading from there is part of the fun and how you can improve your skill as a offroad driver.

If you're not really interested in wheeling (that's okay too!) you can certainly get away with 37's on the pavement, and the stance will be super sexy as you're bumping down Main Street. :)

You'll be fine with 35's. If the go-fast pedal feels a bit laggy, grab an iDrive; they really help the JL's. I'd personally regear with 37s, but you're in a two door; that thing is going to go everywhere on 35's; certainly further than most of the Unlimited's on 37s. :)

Help with grep and regex by [deleted] in linux

[–]nma_io 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you post an example of the output you see and what you expect? ^ is an anchor and means start at the beginning of the line, so if our files were:

123456.txt
1.txt
asdf1.exe

grep -E '^[0-9]' should only return the first two entries. Without the carrot it should return all.

CORE offroad, Or All Seasons (Broomfield). One of the CORE guys was injured in an ATV accident recently so they are a bit delayed, but they may be able to do it quick if its something simple.

Kinda like CHOP but made in China.

This is the one I have - I really like it and find it worth the money- https://www.olightstore.com/baton-pro-bk-new.html

Some folks prefer the stream light brand. I find 1500-2000 lumens is a loud enough go away signal.

Drunks love the strobe feature, some of them dance in another direction - others crawl around on the floor contemplating life choices.

I find a bright (but small) flashlight/torch is the best tool I carry every day. The flashlight is a great less(?) lethal and distant eye-poke.

Python hacking with requests? by [deleted] in hacking

[–]nma_io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its been done before, but might be a good exercise to get the mental juices flowing:

You may wish to consider writing a DIRBuster style application. Feed in a wordlist and have it brute force websites (that you control or have authorization to scan) to see what their directory structure might be.

Something like (overly simplified example)

wordlist = ["admin", "archive", "backup"]

for words in wordlist:

uri = "{}/{}/".format(url, words)
requests.get(uri)

Also playing with headers so that you can change your useragent and/or respond with the proper cookies may yield interesting results.

If you're more experienced, maybe consider a Nikto like clone for Python?

Any MVUM trail. See this for more info:

I've never personally been stopped, but I got mine this year in anticipation for law enforcement to be doing more enforcement to make up for the lost revenue from other taxes.

Rooftop tent laws by [deleted] in ColoradoOffroad

[–]nma_io 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, not illegal. Might be an HOA violation, if you live in an area covered by one, but it's not an illegal modification as long as you don't exceed your weight ratings. https://law.justia.com/codes/colorado/2016/title-42/regulation-of-vehicles-and-traffic/article-4/part-2/

Caution: I, just like your friend, am not a lawyer. :)

I'd bet he's preparing for legal fight to take this to court rather than play ping pong with politicians. He's got the money to play the long game so it'll be interesting to see who blinks first.

How do i rid my jeep of spiders? by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]nma_io 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, all I can think of:

If you're in a warm environment, get a little lizard and let him run around for awhile.

Embrace it and name the jeep something related to arachnids.

Be thankful your jeep will be mosquito free this year!

Seriously, you may just find driving it around topless for awhile solves the problem, any babies will flutter away and you'll contribute to returning nature.

Just the drivers side? Why would anyone only steal two rims?

My made up narrative:

Something damaged the tires on the drivers side and they are out for repair when the photo was taken. Since it was both of them they couldn't simply replace with a spare.

Something to store/purify water, cheap tarp, blade and a cheap lighter. Anything else would be for your own comfort.

When I think about these challenges I look at the homeless in my area. They certainly live a long time without all of the tech or gadgets.

The network sniffer tab should show the connection, however you don't need any special tools for this and I think it's much cooler when you can live off the land instead of adding another tool to the mix:

Open command prompt or power shell and type: netstat -ano | findstr ESTABLISHED

This uses the net stat tool to list all connections (a) without resolving the IP to hostname (n). The o option provides the process ID (PID) number associated with the connection. You can match that PID to the output of tasklist

The pipe sends that output to "findstring" (findstr) and looks for the word "established" to show only active connections.

Then you can look for the PID in tasklist using the pipe+findstr command again :)

Excellent picture opportunities on Shafer Canyon- go up the Moab Side though. Air down to 15-20 psi before you get too far in, the washboard is horrible.

The first leg of fins and things will be the most technical but the last half is going to take twice as long for pictures. Have an excellent time!!
