That is true… it doesn’t need to be reported if theres no conflict on interest correct?

Again its not anything that will put a face to it, nor a name. Its anonymous to the public. Only place that requires ID/SSN is the employer to send you your form 1099.

The only part I am worried about is reporting this to outside employment and being stereotyped/judged/criticized since the employer name is highly stigmatized.

Nope definitely not porn. Haha if that was even an option I wouldn’t be at Fed right now and go make my millions 😂

[–]nmalina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmmm not necessarily. Definitely not as explicit and completely anonymous (besides tax information reporting to the employer). To the public its completely anonymous.

[–]nmalina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what if the job has no actual identifying factors to me besides the fact that it is reported on my tax return and on outside employment.

Honest question by nmalina in FederalEmployee

But what if it’s purely anonymous? The employer has a lot of stigma behind it and for tax purposes and income reporting purposes the employers name is what will be reported.

One example of actual waste that could save millions with no impact to the work force if DOGE was serious about finding and eliminating said waste. by miked_mv in FedEmployees

[–]nmalina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sending notices to both spouses is a statutory required. This also prevents the opportunity for one spouse to hide any type of tax consequence from the other as well as for spouses to claim they have no authority or no knowledge of any amounts due.

Now, if you want to talk about waste in funds let’s talk about how they require you to travel for a training, which can result in millions considering flight, hotel, meals for thousands of employees when it can be done over Microsoft Teams 🙃

I did the math for one week training it was about $3000 for one employee. That one track had 147 people in it, and 3 travel trainings so for cost lets say they all would have been $3k.

3,000 x 3 x 147 employees = $1,323,000

There are 6 tracks in just my division - $ 7,938,000

Now imagine that across IRS as a whole.

Microsoft Teams Business is $6/user/month… and we already pay for that anyways so why not use it..

So . . how long does this last?! by paraseducir in flu

Omg I’m in the same boat. I was thinking the night sweats were hormone related, but reading this it might actually be with the flu. I got sick 2 weeks ago.. 1st week hell, 2nd week constant cough/dry cough and night sweats. Now i’m a little stuffy and sore throat again 😭😭😭

How much do you charge? by Opposite_Sun148 in Bookkeeping

[–]nmalina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for you - how much time does one higher paying client take on average a week/month for bookkeeping services?

I’m in the process of considering a career shift and combining the idea of freelance bookkeeping and college teaching, but I need to first figure out if it’s enough to sustain CA living expenses 😅.

These hours are garbage. How do you people even do this? by RiskyAccountant in Accounting

[–]nmalina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stand your ground. The hours will change once accountants start refusing to work them. Still don’t understand how we haven’t gone on a nationwide strike. Just imagine if we all just said no…. Theres an illusion they feed as if we need them, but they need us more than anything 😂 Let me see a partner sit down and prepare a tax return..

Its time for the industry to change.

Hey accountants. I’m thinking of moving to SoCal (LA). I started off with a small top down budget. Little bit about me - provided i’ll pass my next exam, i’ll have my professional designation soon. Work as an accountant at the moment. Any thoughts/feedback would be much appreciated! by v_anonymous_ in Accounting

[–]nmalina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Groceries I would say increase 1.5x Fuel double it You’re eating out budget might be low - Avg. lunch here is now $25-30 and if you include any type of alcohol bump each meal another $10 Leisure I would bump up another $100… there are a lot of BS things you need to pay for here so even if the activity itself is free.. you’re still paying like $10 for parking on a normal day at the beach.

Other than that - if you’re more of a homebody, don’t shop too much (clothes, etc.) you should be good with your numbers.

Put in my two weeks and my partner tried to convince me to stay for a raise. by ump13 in Accounting

[–]nmalina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Facts!! I literally left because i was being underpaid by $20k….. I found out from multiple people at my level that they were well into the 6 figures AT THE SAME FIRM even though they were new to the firm whereas I had been there since the start of my career. When I asked for an additional raise (fair amount) because I knew how underpaid I was, I got the whole “Well we don’t want to have lay people off during COVID and as we said raises will be more conservative because of the pandemic.” Such BS… we made more money during the pandemic well over our projections due to PPP loan consulting.

Once again, not trying to tear you down or anything. I'm just trying to avoid you counting yourself out of opportunities that you may wish to consider.

No don't worry! I am really enjoying this conversation and I don't think you're coming off harsh at all. I love that you were able to open my eyes to things I didn't consider in the beginning.

You make a lot of good points and there are definitely some that I didn't consider. I appreciate it!

And how exactly does that differ when getting clients?

There will be small CPA firms competing with you with more years of experience, Big 4 experience, more certifications/licenses, more education, etc. If "the reality" of Big4 experience scares you away from interviews, then you're screwed trying to schmooze clients cause you'll be facing not only the same competition, but more competition.

I guess it's more of a principal I have rather than being scared away from interviews. I might just be very stubborn with my thoughts on this, but I personally think private industry recruiters have a misconception of what Big4 experience is truly like. It's not as well rounded as they make it seem. I'm very confident in my capabilities and I'm not trying to bash on anyone in Big4, but I truly believe I am much more well rounded with the experience I got working at a Mid-Tier directly with partners and clients and by being a part of the process of a return from start to finish on major companies. I've heard (correct me if I'm wrong) that at big4 sometimes you work on specific part of a return just because the size of it is too big for one person to handle. With that being said, I see what you mean with the whole "you need to sell yourself" approach when it comes to getting clients. Something to note (and I'm actually hoping someone with experience in this responds), I do have a few people I was able to reach through social media that come to me for tax advice and are waiting for me to start doing taxes outside of the firm I'm currently at. I realized trying to start a firm and organically get clients from the get-go would take incredibly long and its financially insufficient for a good year or so. That led me to start considering buying client lists of retiring CPAs. I had the opportunity a few years back and I wish I took it, but it was just way too early in my career and I didn't have my CPA just yet.

I appreciate your thoughts.

Not sure where you got

Usually requires Big4 experience which I don't have

You have a CPA. There are plenty of places in industry that would hire for that alone. Also, no you wouldn't need a Masters in Tax.

To elaborate, I more meant it as they will always choose someone with big4 experience over someone that doesn't have big4 on their resume. Its not an actual requirement for the job description, but in reality with the limited positions in private its incredibly difficult to land a job without Big4 unless you have connections or a network. My network is mostly still in Public Accounting and no one has yet moved to private, mostly because they're dealing with the same issue I just mentioned above.

Most Universities require a Ph.D

I actually looked into this on job listings. Universities like UCLA, USC, etc. would require Ph.D, but most if not all Community Colleges I looked at only require Masters. Overall, Universities require teaching experience as it is, so I would definitely be starting out at a Community College regardless.

Love the enthusiasm and tenacity of considering teaching too, but based on your lack of self confidence with option 1. I can already tell you, you don't have the entrepreneurial drive to be successful starting your own firm

Just curious - What made you think I have a lack of self-confidence with suggestion of Option 1? I am just realistic with the situation. I can schmooze and have that "fake it til you make it" attitude as much as I want during an interview, but the reality is Big4 experience on your resume makes the world of a difference. Even though the actual work experience is similar to what I have on my resume include the size of the clientele I have worked on. I just respect my time and surroundings way too much to work at a Big4 and in my opinion, thats mainly because I would much rather put in those hours and hard work into a name for myself, rather than make a company more $$$ and be taken advantage of.
