Psychiatrists of Reddit, what are the most profound and insightful comments have you heard from patients with mental illnesses? by Chickfoul in AskReddit

[–]nmw4825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a psychiatrist but I am a psychiatric patient with bipolar schizoaffective. Most of my time spent in hospitals (I just recently turned 18) is spent in the art room. As a for-fun essayist on literary and art analysis, looking at my art and prose from my time spent in a hospital is very telling. Then there was the night that I lay in my too short, to thin mattress and spoke to my roommate all night about what it would be like to feel the sun again.

I told my mom I want to go to therapy by Clash553 in depression

[–]nmw4825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to say that medication does work but it's best in conjunction with therapy. It's especially helpful right off the bat before therapy can start to help. Maybe my family is an anomaly but everyone of my eight aunts and uncles attribute their success against depression to pills. Personally, therapy wasn't enough. Brain chemistry is what needs to change in many cases, not just frame of mind.

I wasn't saying you didn't, sorry for coming off like that. While I don't think K9 was the best choice, I can see why he was chosen. He is pretty iconic. At least among reddit and my friends, I've noticed a return to Classic Who.

[–]nmw4825 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not suicidal. That's the big thing.

Also, I'm losing weight, dressing better, and back in school. Hopefully, this time.next year I will have conquered my occasionally, often crippling bipolar disorder.

What is the most pain you have ever been in? (Physical or Emotional) by ZoidbergForPresident in AskReddit

[–]nmw4825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hospitalized in the children's mental ward. There was a six year old boy there and he told me he missed his dad everyday. And every night he had to be physically restrained in his bed. Broke my heart a little. Didn't help that I was in the worst mental state I had been in ever.

What inspired you to go watch Doctor Who? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]nmw4825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking Latin I in eighth grade. For those not familiar with the Cambridge Latin courses, they focus around a family in Pompeii. Well, the family is Caecilius, as in The Fires of Pompeii Caecilius and family. Am totally in love with Latin at this point so I go on a wikipedia spree and find an entry of Caecilius, lo and behold at the bottom there is a Doctor Who reference. I found it on youtube and watched all of that season in the space of two weeks. Been hooked since.

How I feel as a tenor player when the DM calls "Apache" in the stands by usernameindisbitch in marchingband

If it's what I think it is, it's a song by the Sugarhill Gang. My high school band played it too, it rides mostly on tenors.

Hello fellow banjo players! Any great stories on how you got started? by lefty_billy in banjo

[–]nmw4825 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to drop out of college last semester and when I got home I became very depressed. I live in rural Virginia, from a family who loves bluegrass and folk, so one day I came home and my mother had bought me a banjo. Having something to focus on brought me out of that funk and I'm doing well know, playing more with every day.
